Delayed Londonderry line upgrade suddenly to go ahead

The railway line between Ulster's capital and the second city Londonderry had it's upgrade temporarily delayed due to financial situations. However there has been a sudden unexpected reversal and now £23,000,000 has been given the go-ahead by the Executive at Stormont to start work beyond Coleraine Junction to Londonderry commencing in July 2012. The line beyond the junction will be totally closed during the refurbishment for around 8 months. After that it is expected that NIR will run 8 trains in each direction daily. With it's lines showing great increases including this route (long overdue track upgrading) this is great news. It is meant to coincide with Londonderry being City of Culture and in time for that.
