These are really cool trains and the route that they ran on is even more spectacular. It actually reminds me a bit of something that Phil Skene would put together. :) They ran in revenue service from 1930 to 1984 when they were replaced with the Comet electric cars we know today.

Actually not....they had no air conditioning, just fans and operable windows.

I heard that too. But they had wicker seats and looked like something from the 1920s and 1930s even into the 1980s. :)

Now they live on as passenger cars for various tourist railroads.

The first trainset was run by Thomas Edison at the controls and they ran on 3000V DC.

Was rather surprised at a company still running trains that were 50 years old.

That's not unusual over here. There have been some that have soldiered on longer than that. My very own MBTA has rebuilt those famous PCC trolley cars (trams) for use on the Mattapan High Speed Line - a former New Haven branch that as put into tram service back in the 1920s or before. These cars are now 70-plus years old, but have been rebuilt.

There are others as well, but the main topic in the thread and this one are the more famous ones. Others that are quite famous too, but have since been replaced were the old Brill "Brillners" that ran on the Philadelphia and Western.
