Decent UK Cab

Vern

Trainz Maverick
My latest WIP route (built in TS12 but with a view to converting in TANE) has now reached a state where I decided to make a test run across the portion with scenery applied.

Unfortunately this is hindered by the fact that just about every UK diesel loco I've tried has the awful opaque windscreen effect which bleaches out the scenery and thus looks vastly different from the rich moorland scenery as it appears in Surveyor. Combine that with the TS12 draw distance limiter kicking in looks quite abominable and almost has me running for MSTS or TS2016. In addition, a couple of the cabs from the DLS (Class 26/27 and Class 158) seem to have the interior coloured with an intense brilliant white which is essentially unusable. I need to test the route from cab view as opposed to helicopter 200m away from the train, to check for issues such as foliage penetrating the train or stray rocks in the centre of the track.

Obviously the S&C has some stuff with better cabs or I could use one of their steam locos, but it's not installed on the development machine to avoid putting payware items in a route destined for freeware. So if anyone can recommend a decent cab for a UK loco on the DLS which doesn't dazzle the eyes or apply a filter to the scenery, would be much obliged.

Not a loco, but you could try my Cravens cab- the side windows are deliberately dirty but the front view is reasonably clear:

-freeintcam

Could you use the -freeintcam function?

In earlier versions it was easy to do. In TS12 it appears to be somewhat different. To quote form another thread: You have to create a "trainzoptions" file in your "User Data " folder. Name it simply "trainzoptions" (no .txt extension) Then add the line "=-freeintcam"

If it works then you should be able to move forward, in cab view, penetrating the obscure screen and hopefully have a clear view.
:)

Thanks guys, I'll try both those methods.

Edit: Cravens works a treat, perfect clarity through the windscreen. (And a nice cab + interior to boot!).

Let me elaborate a little on this:

In TS12 build 49922, as well as in earlier versions of Trainz, trainzoptions.txt just goes in the root folder. In TS12 SP1 (i.e. build 61388), it goes in the UserData folder. T:ANE does not currently support trainzoptions.txt at all.

The correct line to enter is:

-freeintcam

For high-quality British steam locomotives with high-quality custom cabs, look no further than Skipper1945 and Jayholland content. :)

I use Slugsmasher's InvisiCAB <kuid:86661:15710> to explore routes. I find it very useful as it has a top speed of about 80mph and instantaneous stopping.
