Copying Terrain

Was trying to see if I could create a map terrain only non textured from another fully textured with scenery.Tried cloning, blank board in same config as original & copying over the map files.

Have been able to copy a board with terrain only no textures no scenery without problems.

Added a texture to another test & copied but the texture copied over too even when it was deleted from the copy it still shows up without errors or any entry in the kuid table for the map.

Doe's anyone know if it is possible to copy terrain only from a fully detailed route to create a new terrain map.

I think you are try to take terrain from another map and place it in a new map. Am I correct?
If so that can't be done sorry. :(

The gnd file contains the terrain data and unfortunately for you it also contains the ground texture data as well so there is no easy way to start with an untextured version. Changing the config file contents doesn't effect the terrain display at all. There are a few things you might try to remove the gnd textures from the file after you've copied it over to a new map - do a forum search on erasing ground textures. I'm pretty sure there were a couple threads not long ago on this topic.

The .gnd also defines the coordinate system for the entire route. This affects all objects (.obs file), trackwork (.trk file) and view points (.bmk file).

Hence, the only sensible way to reuse an existing .gnd file is in a new and empty route.

Do you want a blank, terraformed only map? Why not try one of the external tools that create it for you? You don't have to build prototypical routes with HOG, MapMaker (or even TransDEM), they are fine for fictitious routes, too.
