I did an Extended Database Repair from Content Manager, and i also intenionally broke the game so the database repair will start automatically, still they appear with the "?" but they are not missing as long as the name appears...Also in the dependencies list they do not appear as "Unknown kuid" ... And i have so many kuids like this that i cannot just copy them and search them for reinstallation...

If the assets happen to be on the Download Station, select them, right-click, then click Download.

This should reduce the amount of problem assets.

Google the kuid #

I would Google them or more easy just use kuid.ru but the problem is i cannot manually google each one of the 10,000 kuids.... if they were missing, it would be easier, just copy and paste in the KuidWizzard program, this program makes them automatically with comma between them <kuid...>,<kuid...> ... but like this its difficult. They do not appear in the dependency list groupped, because they still have names in Content Manager so they are scattered. I am starting now to reinstall things in the game.

Anyway, the problem is that i do not understand why this happend. Yesterday i played for a little bit, then closed the game and reopened it later without restarting the PC or doing something else to the game. And when i reopened i found myself with a ton of "zombie" items...

You need to run an EDR and leave it to finish, should hopefully sort that problem out.

If you have done alot editing of config files and then perform an EDR, The EDR will try to "fix" the asset bt assigning a modified Kuid#. The end result is a lot of missing kuids because they are now modified. In CMP try editing a few in explorer and using the "revert" opion. If that restores your missing asset, then you could try doing the rest on a "batch" basis. 10,000+ seems like lot though. If you had a backup folder, it would be a lot easier.

I've had this happen to me before and after doing an EDR, the '?' didn't go away, but eventually (I forget how long it took), the '?' disappeared and was replaced with the DS icon. I have no idea why this happens sometimes, but it does.

I did about 3 EDR's and nothing. I am wondering why do they show up with names and not like missing kuids?

I did not edit a lot. Basically as i said in my first post here i only worked at my route a little bit, then closed Trainz, then restarted it after a few hourse without restarting the PC or installing anything in the game.

The missing items do not appear in the main list with names. You can only see the missing items if you click on the object that has missing deps and view dependencies. They do not show in the main list with names as i see these items with unknown location.

Anyway, i managed to solve the problem. Somehow i had the insipration (with the help of shaneturner12 who gave me the idea of filtering the items by "Location: Unknown") to copy all those items (not with right click , only from Ctrl + C) and paste them into a notepad. For my surprise it did copied all the items with the correspondent kuids, so i managed to put them into KuidWizard , program that made them look like <kuid:...>,<kuid:...> and so on. Having this list it was easy to send it to my friends who helped me in finding the items and reinstall them and also search on kuid.ru (by the way, even if most of you do not like kuid.ru the website is a lot usefull than DLS, it is completely free and it works all the time, in exchange, right now i am not able to download from DLS again, even if i payed for a FCT) .

So in cocnlusion, starting from 10,809 objects now i have 2000+ unknown but i still have to receive from some friends some content so i hope i will get below 1000 items. Some of them are lost forever as they were my creations and were only on my PC but thats it. Unfortunately in the past 2 months i spent more time on fixing Trainz than working/playing so i am starting to understand all those guys who preffer to move forward and play RailWorks, even if it lacks content...

Could have tried opening them all for edit then committing them straight away, that can sometimes fix things, as can also checking all for errors which revalidates them, that worked here once with the question mark problem when I had it in 2010, shortly before the hard disk Trainz was on died I might add, never had it since.

I'm inclined to think that some of these problems, especially when they reoccur, are more related to or triggered by hardware problems. No one ever seems to consider the hardware when the software plays up.
Just because it works OK for most things doesn't mean there isn't a problem which may surface when a hardware intensive program like Trainz with a large constantly changing database is running.

I cannot open them for edit, did try that but it's impossible, that option as many others is not active for the items with problems. Anyway, i already managed to get most of them, i still have 1796 to reinstall but as i said i havent received everything i have to receive so there is hope :) Some of the items are useless anyway and i will probably delete them completely at the end.

Sudden thought, have you had a look at the trash folder? sometimes the problem items or missing ones turn up in there.

Yeap i did and there was nothing in there...in exchange i had a folder named "original" but it contained only kuids that where already installed
