content manager will not show

hi everyone, been outta the trainz world for a couple years, but came back. I have bought a new computer, downloaded trainz 12 from steam , purchased a first class ticket, registered everything but I still cant get the content manager up and running. I can run the routes that come with 12 but can't download any of the good stuff. please help. thanks, dave

Me too! exactly the same scearnio, I brought my TS12 off Steam Can't get Content manager to open, when I click it nothing happens (just exits out of trainz and I have to re-open to play . Can someone give us some advice please .

Can I check if either of you get an error? Also, I need to know what graphics card you have.

For your issues with the Download Station, are you downloading using Content Manager? Or have you downloaded a 'cdp' file from the Download Station website?

In regards to the DLC packs, the installers may not pick up on the Steam editions of Trainz. However, please ensure that you are pointing the installer (using the 'browse' tool) to the actual Trainz folder in Steam. To do this, please first locate the Steam folder, then open the folder called Steamapps, then open the folder called 'common'. You should then see a folder marked 'TS2012', please select this as the install location.

We are currently developing the Service Pack 1 update for the Steam editions of Trainz, which will improve the handling of DLC packs. We do not have an ETA on the release of this, however it will be after we have released the hotfix for the 'base' TS12 editions SP1.

And Shane, no error message, I sometimes get something like "checking for missing assest database" and once it loads, nothing. as usual. But normally NOTHING at all happens.

Can I check what graphics card you've got then? If it's an Intel integrated one, you will have problems.

Easiest way of doing it is by following the post you quoted to find the TS12 folder, then open it, then open the Bin folder, then run the TrainzDiag tool. Post here any warnings or errors reported by this tool.

Well actually. . . :/

I do get the following message when I start trainz before it loads the "menu" with Start/Options/content/manual/etc

A little "DOS"?? like box shows up with

"DownloadManager:urgeExpiredCacheFile>deleting cached file (3 lines worth with different random numbers and letters

then four lines of
Datamanager:registertrainzbumpvertextype>unable to load 'm.tbumpic/tbumpg/tround

Sorry, going off a print screen, sits for around 10/15 seconds before it loads the menu

Okay ran Trainz Diagnostic and it passed everythign except Video Driver Age, it says unknown and cannot run. Also, in that folder I found Content Manager and it says "The program can't start because d3dx9_42.dll is missing from your computer. please try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Can I say thanks now for your help, so much I didn't know, I'm just a push button and play game kinda guy

That's basically saying that you haven't got a recent enough version of DirectX 9.0C installed.

I have a one-click tool that can help fix that - my DirectX Install Helper tool. It's in the relevant sticky thread. Be aware that you will need to tell your firewall software to allow any connections from DXInstallHelper.

Cheers for that, just one thing. . .

So I clicked "run" and it opened up the box with "DirectX Install Helper Utility" and the message
"'Redistributable. An internet connection is required for this
Acquiring the redistributable file<this may take a few minutes>. . ."

Which has been on screen for the pass ten minutes, is this normal or have I've done something wrong? I don't think its a firewall problem as windows firewall is *meant* to alert me when it blocks something. Just checking as if something can go wrong on a computer, it happens to me :/

anyway, thanks to your replies my trainz experience is about to get even better! (can i play trainz while it downloads?)
