Content Manager Frozen?!

For the past two days my Trainz Content Manager has been rendered useless. It first froze up on me while I was downloading a large batch of content. from the DLS. So then of course when I tried to close the program it would not respond and close on its own. So I had to use task manager, which every Trainz user dreads because then you know the next time you go to open the Trainz program again, you are faced with the automatic error checking and asset scanning that takes at least half a day if not more. Now even after TWO error checking and scanning sessions have been run, Content Manager still continues to freeze up on me. I have not closed it yet because I know what will happen if I use task manager to override it again. Is there a point where the Content Manager just becomes too big for its own good, and can no longer handle processing all the assets? I am approaching 300,000 right now. Thanks for any help.

Yep, seems the larger the database the more susceptible it is to the lockup....

Next time give this a try, it is the only thing that I have found that will keep you from having to do the dreaded database update.

1. Content Manager hangs up, you get the never ending blue circle of waiting.... close content manager or wait for the notification the program has stopped responding and then close it.

2. Immediately restart Content Manager and let it open normally.

3. Open the task Manager.

4. Close Content manager... you should get the yellow bar on the bottom saying "please wait, applying filter", but nothing happens.

5. In task manager, kill TADameon process.

6. Content manager will close, but a new instance of TADaemon will start up and run. let it run and do not interfere with it. It will shut down by itself.

7. Restart Content Manager, it should open normally.

After a few of these incidents, I go ahead and do a database update myself. Best thing to do is start it before you go to bed.

Thanks for the fast and detailed reply. I did everything you said to do and almost got the desired results. Except it says please wait, applying filter on the bottom. Sometimes when it says that it will last for a few hours. I get frustrated and usually close the program after so long. I wonder if de-fragmenting my hard drive would help.

Yea, I forgot what the yellow bar says........ once it says that just go ahead with the rest of the procedure.

It seems like going into the game and using Surveyor first then leaving the game and starting Content Manager seems to get it all straightened out again.

I had similar experience yesterday, I suspect that it related to part of the site being down or something
If that is the case it is a shame that the website being down is able to affect a part of the game in such way. I found out later that all my custom tags for content got deleted automatically by the database "repair" utility. That took at lot of time to do and now I worry that it will happen again. Also the game made me put in my serial number and Auran username all over again which I thought was very strange.
