Hello all, I lost everything so I reinstalled Trainz 2004 but I need to know do I need to get the latest "build" if so how? Second, in case's such as this is there a such thing as an emergency first class ticket so I can get some content back? Thanks for any info!

You have no file showing Auran anymore ?
Did you have a huge amount of downloaded assets and irreplacable custom routes, or just a choice few ?

I think everyone has had this happen to them, at one time or another.

A yearly FCT works out to @ $0.06 cents a day

See this link for info on 2004 builds and downloading the appropriate Service Packs.

Your profile does not show you ever registered 2004 so you may need to register it first. I don't know whether you can even download the updates without it first being registered.

As for the FCT issue, there is no emergency FCT. You can buy a 3 month FCT but I'd probably go for the annual FCT. Over the years much of the 2004 content has disappeared from the DLS. You might look at the black pages and see what 2004 content is still there and decide whether a FCT is worth getting or not. Many of the non-DLS sites from which that I first obtained 2004 content no longer exist. Depending on what you had and when you obtained it, it is unlikely you will ever recover everything.

Every hard drive will fail at some time, so always BACKUP your content on a regular basis. Right now, I'm in the middle of my 2d hard drive crash. I'm not too concerned about it because all my non-program (i.e., that which is not on an installation disk) files were backed up and can be restored. I lost a lot of data in the 1st crash when a power supply failure took out both the main drive and an on-board backup drive. No useable data could be recovered from either. But my loss was limited to the last 3 months of data since I had a backup to an external drive that was about 90 days old.

Good luck!!

A FCT is mandatory for users who only have Trainz Classics or earlier who want to view/download the Download Station content.

Could have swore I registered years ago, I'll be happy to register. However if much of the 04' content is no longer there perhaps I should just get a newer version of trainz. I was looking into it, is the newest version good for me? I like it simple which is why I was happy with 04', I did buy 06' but never liked it as much as 04'.

I fear this is one of the more painful ways to learn that you need to make backups. You could even consider yourself lucky it didn't go wrong earlier.

I sympathise with you.....the same thing happened to me a couple of months ago and i'm still trying to recover.......I also lost everything.....the helpful people on this forum will get you through this.
