Compatibilty Mode (& trees)

I've noticed that the trees that come with TRS09 don't work without compatibilty mode. I really would like to use native mode but it seems dumb that not even the supplied content works. What is happening is that each plane of the model seems to be created as a rectangle with the irregular tree being printed onto a 'transparent' part, making a rectangle. In compatibility mode, the transparent part is completely invisible but in native mode, it appears as if it were made out of glass. Does anyone know how to cure this?

These older-style trees are built using the older way of making alpha channels, therefore they don't display correctly.

There are two ways of handling this:

1) Use replacement trees built specifically for TS2009 and above.
Janvik, and some other excellent tree and plant makers have made some trees that are compatible. Using the replace assets utility, badly-rendered trees can be replaced with better items, which are more compatible.

If you want to go the payware route, purchase the Treez package from Auran. These trees were made for TS2009 and above.

2) Update to TS2010. The rendering "bug" which it is not, has been fixed so that older content is handled better in this version.

Thanks for the help, although I don't exactly feel helped (not your fault I hasten to add).

What I'm hearing is that TRS2009 shipped with a load of stuff that was incompatible and now, in order to get stuff that works I have to either pay Auran for new content or pay Auran for a new version of the software. Man, that sucks big time. :n:

I realise there is some great stuff from JVC aka Jankvis on the DLS but I'm put off by the large poly counts, even for LoD1 and 2. I'm modelling UK based layouts and I need to be able to fill large areas with trees so the low poly ones provided would be ideal if only they'd work in native mode.

Thanks again but it seems I'm left without a viable solution atm.

Thanks for pointing me at this. Guess it's all been said before. Can't help agreeing that it seems like a bit of a con. I too bought 09 for the supposed performance upgrade only to find that most of the stuff that came with it (including all the trees) will only work in compatibility mode, which is no quicker, and probably slower, than the version I 'upgraded' from. :(

There are other trees available that do work in native mode, TS2009 does allow you to switch assets.

Cheerio John
