Commuter train hits minibus taxi

Hi all,

This is one of those topics that regularly appears on these forums, but sadly the blatant arrogance (or ignorance) of the driver of a minibus taxi in Cape Town has led to the death of nine school children.

I agree,this is one the bone-headed things that gets people killed and injured every year,if the gates were blocking the left side,then I think it would make sense to block the right side as well,again,to prevent people like these from doing something reckless and stupid again!:n:

Whats the world coming to these days. There must be a virus going around that makes drivers think they can beat the train to the barriers. Lets hope they all get what they deserve.

I agree,it is either that,or is it that some people lack patience and brain cells that is causing some of these idiots to think straight!

I know you did not mean what you said in the way I answered it, but you should really have a think about how you phrase things when talking about something as tragic as this.

If the driver survives he should be charged with murder, not some form of manslaughter, which he is probably going to be charged with, and when found guilty let the parents of those poor children decide the punishment, being skinned alive comes into my mind for this.

I know what you mean pommie. It just angers me to here about innocent children having their lives cut short by some impatient moron who thinks he is GOD when he gets behind the wheel. My thoughts and prayers go to all the victims. Skinned alive is to good for him. Let the parents decide his fated.

The problem with blocking both sides of the road is that it also blocks the exit to the crossing....

My wife's seen that happen where a pedestrian (walking as recommended facing the oncoming traffic) entered the crossing - the lights started & the barrier closed if front of her, she turned around, and the other barrier dropped...
She's now trapped inside the level crossing on the tracks. Fortunately, it's a manned crossing so the Signalman had to lift one of the barriers to let her out.

In spite of the barriers closing the road, there's still a number of drivers who still try to beat the closing... (the barriers need repaired regularly).

With that type of mind set, I suspect the only improvement would be the automatic placement of a "stinger"...
