Community Build - CSX Southeast USA

I'm not sure if this has been done before or discussed, but I am planning to recreate the CSX lines from Nashville or Knoxville to Waycross, GA. This route would pass through Chattanooga, TN and Atlanta, GA.

Would anyone be interested in a community build in order to share the workload and ideas?

I am new to Trainz and surveyor (I've used iPad trainz for a couple years, not sure if that counts as experience) and could use mentoring. The route seems daunting, but I've been reading up on using Google maps/earth and sketchup, but plan on using mostly DLS scenery. I will be using TS2010.

Tips, tricks, encouragement, discouragements ?!?

I also thought it'd be cool to connect to other routes via portal, such as the CSX Columbia-Savannah route amrail2000 is creating.

I would recommend that you start with the section from Atlanta & Chattanooga. CSX, U.S. Highway 41 and Interstate 75 criss-cross each other pretty much the whole length between these two cities. Dalton is the only place along CSX's route that it crosses Norfolk Southern on their ways to the two cities. Norfolk Southern's old freight depot is now the city's visitor's center and has a platform facing the tracks, giving you a good place to see trains. I know of several easy-to-access side roads that come off of U.S. Highway 41 that get you closer to the CSX tracks, specifically on the north side of Dalton. So I've been messing around all evening trying to find route and topo maps. I've found some DEMs and route maps. I started placing sections in surveyor and realized 1 tile ~ .5 miles. This will take a ton of tiles and much more work/time than I expected.:confused: That being said, I would still like to do this route, but since I'm still learning I've decided to take a smaller bite and work on the Fulton County Railway, a CSX short line feeder that works the Fulton industrial area and delivers to the mainline. If I don't go crazy first, I will then incorporate this line into the larger route.
 
If you haven't purchased it yet, I recommend getting TransDEM from Doctor Ziegler (Geophil). It costs about $33 and is available here:

With TransDEM you can easily import, convert, and then spit out the Trainz terrain complete with the topographic maps in place. There are even options to lay the track and or indicate where the track will be. There's a bit of a learning curve, but the results are extremely rewarding in the end.

That looks like it's worth the money in order to save my sanity.
