Collapsing trains problem

Often when two (or more) trains get close to each other they collapse, looking rather like squashed soft drink cans. Is there a way of preventing this?

Sometimes looking at a train from a particular angle does the same thing. Rotating your viewpoint cures the symptom, but not the underlying problem.

That happens when you have your poly count (in options) moved to the left. You'll probably have to leave it all the way to the right to eliminate your problem.

I had this explained to me on this forum once - here's a sort of "edited highlights":

Older models for Trainz used .pm meshes - using this type of file allows the program to calculate the polys to clip to make the model easier to display. It can do this based on the performance slider settings (which I what Dave refers to) - you have to balance detail and performance.

Newer models now use .im meshes, and the program cannot now do this, which is why many creators use a "Level of Detail" control, where they can specify which polys to clip.

I realise that this is not a deep explanation, but I hope it helps.

Thanks - 2 problems solved

Moving the poly slider all the way to the right cured the problem of the collapsing trains. (It was only 1 notch away from the right.)

It also cured another problem (see my post on flashing buildings). They no longer flash!

I tried both DX and Open GL, and the problems were solved in both modes.

Wonderful!
