Coal Tipple Functioning?

If a coal tipple sets alone with no conveyor, or any other feeder, does it still function in real life? Assumption is that a tipple receives, stores, sorts and delivers coal. If I have a tipple setting all alone with only a multiple use section of track connecting it to the system, is that totally unreal since there is no connection to the mine in a visible manner. Or, can a tipple set atop a mine and retrieve coal via an elevator or conveyor vertically?

A tipple can receive coal from a conveyor, from a bucket loader, from a traincar dumper, or from a vehicle dumper. If you have a stand-alone tipple with no conveyor then you could have a coal pile and a dump truck as the source for loading. Presumably the coal pile is replenished by truck.

OK, that takes the guessing away - thanks. I think I will use a small tunnel entrance as a "mine" and position a truck near it with a big coal pile nearby. Will need a ramp to get the truck above the pile for unloading.
