Coal Country & Diesel Fuel - HELP!

The Richmond Diesel Depot on this line features the JR EB Fuel Pad and the JR RP&P Sanding Tower - neither asset would appear to be operational.

I have standing alongside the pumps at this location, 3 of JR's (Early) GP9's, PRR 7180,7190 and 7167. Sand loading print-out for all three reads:- 750/750 - so all OK for the present.

Diesel print-out for all three reads:- 300/4572 - not so good??????? Have tried various manoeuvres to make fuel available and for the loco's to take it on-board - no success.

Question(s)
  • Should I be concerned that these three are going to grind to a halt sometime soon through lack of fuel?
  • If the answer is YES, does anyone have any suggestions how this can be remedied?

It'll be fine to run the session with haha, the refuelling and sanding arn't operational although good idea for a future update!

Is the route from Jointed Rail? If so you can save the route and add(use) the PL CDK JR fueling and/or sanding assets on the DLS to add functional sanding or refueling points.

Yes, route was obtained direct from Jointed Rail as were the GP 9s and already have a cloned version with a few additions/amendments. Will try out your suggestion and let you know the outcome.

I was hoping to get some clarification as to whether these GP 9s will in fact "run out of fuel". Seems pointless including a diesel fuel and sand readout if it's not going to be part of the operating procedure. Have failed to recognise this factor with at least two steam locos in the past and have ground to a halt in the middle of nowhere!

Many thanks for your suggestion

Make sure to have values for produce and consume, and load/unload amounts. Also the locos I believe will have to have the ability to do so. Some JR locos so show fuel/sand details, some do not.

Dean (dandhud) and others.

Promised that I would give you an up-date on refuelling the JR PRR GP 9’s I have operating in Coal Country.

As you suggested, I set up the PL CDK JR fueling and/or sanding assets from the DLS (I actually used those listed in Content Manager) on some free space on of the turn-round/parking facilities located at each end of the route. So far as I can judge I followed the set-up procedure to the letter but the GP 9’s would not take on fuel automatically, regardless of whether they were either parked on, or run through the refuelling facility.

However, I did make a breakthrough in that by accident I then discovered how to refuel these GP 9’s regardless of where they are parked!

In Drive Session mode I opened my Locomotive/Rolling Stock Asset file and downloaded a new PRR GP 9 on to a length of unoccupied track. With the Commodity Overlays (Additional Tools Menu) set at Visible, the sand load for this loco showed 750/750 and for diesel – 1000/4572 - less than ¼ of a full tank.

I then pressed the edit properties (Question mark) button which brought up the schedules for sand and fuel, then I LMB clicked on to the Diesel Fuel Drum Symbol (NOT THE + SIGN) which brought the entry menu for fuel required – I entered 4000 and then ticked/confirmed the requirement.

Low and Behold the diesel readout for this GP 9 now showed up as 4000/4572.

Flushed with success I then went back to the three GP 9’s sitting on the JR EB FUEL PAD at Richmond now all showing fuel readings down to 215/4572; went through the same procedure with all three and they are now all fully fuelled up, ready to do some work.

Before anybody asks the question, NO I DIDN’T KNOW YOU COULD DO THIS. I’m putting it down to being just a part of the big learning curve but can I put the question to the experts, “where is all this written up?” And if it is written up, is it all up-to-date and is it fully applicable to TANE.

So in answer to my original questions:
· Based on the fact that I’ve seen the fuel readout on these locos drop from 1000 down to 215, yes they will run out of fuel and I suppose they will then stop!
· How can you remedy this? Well it appears you can “refuel/reset” them manually as I’ve described – ANYPLACE – ANYTIME.

Again, thanks Dean, you got me thinking in the right direction.

Regards
John
