CN Holly Sub: IT'S COLD!

Michigan Trainz
While the forums has been down: I have been working on another PROTOTYPICAL route. This time it's back in my area of Detroit, Michigan and it's in the cold winter around Christmas time. The BNSF Red Rock Sub should be at USTrainz.com at anytime now.

CN Holly Sub Overveiw:
The CN Holly Sub runs from Durand to Detroit, Michigan. It is former Grand Trunk Western but alot of GTW Power still is seen on the sub. The line starts in Durand and crosses the CN Flint Sub and interchanges with the Central Michigan Railroad. It goes thru Holly and cross the legendary CSX Saginaw Sub! The line runs thru Pontiac to Milwaukee Jct in Hamtramck (North side of downtown Detroit). The line crosses over the abandoned diamond of the Terminal West Industrial Track and the services the Moterm Intermodal Terminal.

Now for the screenies:

The busy Pontiac Yard that still has a working turntable today.

a CN SD70I works the turntable (I bought the SD70I at World Of Trainz! )

An Amtrak Wolverine comes to a stop at the Pontiac Transport Center.

A CN GP9RM does a switchback on the Pontiac Branch. The branch-line starts from the GM Plant's Yard and goes into a switchback to access the other plants near Pontiac and Alburn Hills.

An autorack train heading to the Pontiac GM Plant ROARs thru Troy near the Big Beaver Road underpass. This strech of mainline from Royal Oak to Pontiac has had over 4 major derailments in the last 7 years by CN!

The Moterm Intermodal Terminal is quiet today.

This is the abandoned Terminal West Industrial Track that goes to Highland Park. It has been abandoned seince the Conrail split back in the mid-1990s. Some of it is now part of the Detroit Terminal Railroad, but not this spot. It used to merge onto the CSX Detroit Sub in Fullerton, Michigan.

This is where the sub splits-off to Downtown Detroit and Port Huron: Milwaukee Jct. There is the CN D&M Yard, Tower, High Line Wye to Detroit/Windsor Tunnel/Delray Junction (NS Detroit District), and the Sugar House Wye to Port Huron.

D&M Yard as a local pauses.

This is the Sugar House Wye to Port Huron. It's used, but not as much as GTW did.

This is where the High Line Wye connects and heads south and goes next to Conrail's Shared Asset that still runs today. The CSA runs from Sterling Heights to Ecorse. Here's a Conrail Autorack coming from the Chrysler Warren Truck Plant.

You all enjoy these screenies. The route will include sessions (Of coarse) and some Central Michigan-skinned locos to do local work around the Durand, Michigan area. -Chris

Where did you get those Canadian gantry signals? They're exactly what I've been looking for! Do they work in TRZ04?

They are included in TRS2006. From the Toronto Raillands route.

UPDATE:

The route is almost done: I'm working on the Durand area where the line crosses the CN/ CP Flint Sub and where the Holly Sub shares with the Tuscola & Saginaw Bay for a few miles. The route includes the CN/ TSBY Yard in Durand and a section of the TSBY Yard that splits-off a few miles outside of Durand (Heading to Holly).

I also have a bonus for this route and here it is:

I made a skin of a Tuscola & Saginaw Bay GP38. It's number 388 "City of Durand". The railroad's locos are interesting because they use Alco trucks insted of the formal GP trucks. Here the train is coming from the Old Yard and heading onto the Holly Sub to Durand Yard.

A few more shots of my TSBY skin.

I know it's not the best, but I think it's good :) . -Chris

I'll drive on it, but I'll bring plenty of warm clothes, and some marshmellows to roast over an open fire.:)

Looks good dude...Getting it as I type this :)

Keep up the good work on all your future routes :)

Very nice on the route Chris :) and today we went up to the Holly Sub to see what was going on up there...It was cold and yet a few flurries were flying around in the air...But we did get to see one train that night and it was a TOFC train...
