City Urban Routes

Does anyone know of any good routes set in big, busy cities? (preferably for trams and not set in America)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am working on two fictional urban tramways, one is set in the US and is about 15x15 squares, and one is UK but im not sure what size it will end up. I've been working on them for the past few months and aim for the UK one to be released by next month ;D Im not sure what to call it though

Hi Alex,

I have built an exceddingly big city tramway which is not fictitious. It's not pristine and trying to fix some parts before I make it accessible (inbetween building the NIR in Ulster).

It depicts the city of Glasgow Tramway system closed in 1962. It is every single line of the city and suburbs and covers around 250 boards so quite large. The lines are all where they used to be geograpically (I walked them all and did about 130 miles of tramping to and fro and checking where they used to be). As I say some tidying up to do but if you want an idea of it visit my website. I have 5 slideshows for city centre-west-north-east-southeast-south-southwest.....

Hi there Bobby.....being from Glasgow i took great interest in your route......a highly commendable effort.

I went over every single screenie and recognised quite a few places at first glance.

The shot of the Kelvingrove galleries and Glasgow Uni overlooking the park is instantly recognisable even though you had to improvise with the content you had available......the angles of the two buildings look right to me.

Great shot of Glasgow x ....once again recognisable because of the clock sitting on a wee island....although as you know that wasn't always the case.

Georges X was well done as was Keppochill Rd going past the cemetery.

Good work on the city centre also.

There is loads of content on the DLS that would suit your route.....old stlye tenements and shopfronts as well as a wide selection of pavements etc.....i realise it must have been difficult to concentrate on fine detail on such a large route.....street lighting...traffic lights...sign posting etc......however it is a great effort.

I have to say hotgrove it was a kind of labour of love. I had no real intetnion of building the whole Glasgow thingy as it was so big. Only intended the west where i live but as I moved into another are I added them - city centre then the northand pondered on the east. Off an on it took a year and a half to do the half of Glasgow north of the River Clyde then I was left with river bridges and lines going nowehere so I thought I would do a wee bit of the southside. I did leave it off from time to time as I honestly never ever thought I would get this done as the Glasgow tramway was so extensive.

Made a bad mistake with Gt Western Rd between the Botanic Gardens and Kelvinbridge (didn't know about Google Earth then so it is totally out of kileter with reduced scenery and an explanation hvering over it. Over 10 tram depots in as well. I could go on for ever sorting out one bit after another but would take ages again and after the stop start it took 3 years. There are tenements all over it becuase it is a tenement city but I didn't want to go overboard with too much scenery as people would find it graphic intensive. I am presently building the NIR in Ulster (all of it) but breaking off to do we obvious bits on the tramway which is so overdue for uploading. Your comments are appreciated and as I was a boy who loved the system I was determined that it would be a bit of living history thanks to the ease of Trainz. Maybe I might get it in the Transport Museum? (!).

With over 240 boards or so I think it is and based on an actual tramway rather than fictitious there are literally hours if not days of driving. With Standards, Kilmarnock Bogies, Cornoations and Cunarders - oh and the single decker (which I travelled on as far as Whiteinch!) thanks to Silvermsith it means proper cars can be run on it.

For which version of Trainz? I'm not aware of any that will run in TS12 without fixing assets. There are quite a few about that will work in TS2009 in compatibility mode.

Pretty much anything for older versions should work in 09 compatibility mode. See for yourself if they work in Native mode. I'd suggest these for starters:

Anything by MarkHodgkinson (I seem to remember he posted links to non-DLS content in the forums.

Surfside Trams by NormP

Edenbridge Trams (might be for TS10, but TS09 should run it with all service packs installed).

Bridgehampton Metro South, Hampton Mall, and Westhaven Coastal (by me :o ). There are forum threads for these with links to non-DLS content. I'm pretty sure that these will require a lot of content fixing to run in TS12, so these would be best to try in TS09 with compatibility mode. Each of these also has a session available. I wouldn't bother with Westhaven Trams, as it's a shorter tramway with less detail, and the whole thing was upgraded and extended for Westhaven Coastal.

I would heartily recommend Phil Skene's highly customizable IndustRail, which is set by default to his native Australia. I altered mine to fit in the Chicago to Milwaukee area, but everything is generic enough you can put it anywhere you want.

Lots of big drab complexes and chimneys belching clouds of noxious smoke (although most of those I had to "hide" chimneys with smoke effects inside the factory ones that didn't). It also features a TON of bridges, thus a great deal of water, several docks and harbors and just about every industry you could think of.

And one of my favorite features of his 2010 version: every mile of this humungous layout is signaled by semaphores! And he even has a whole line of locos this fictional railroad, which is set up as an urban switching line that interchanges with one or more Class I's.
