Changing Traffic

How do I change the traffic on a highway? I mean change the cars to older cars. I'm building a steam era route and don't want modern cars.

Im using UK Age Of Steam - but I get no cars on any roads Ive tried (same roads produce cars without problem if set to any other age). Are there particular cars/trucks to use that work?

Thanks Shane. Ive never looked for dependancies for a region. I presume we find them in the same way in CM?

Ok just checked those. Only problem I had was it told me I had an obsolete build number and missing thumbnail. Corrected the first but no change - still no traffic. :(

vintage era works for me but the 1930s,1940s, and 1950s era doesn't. It didn't show any missing dependencies.

No missing dependencies at all. Only thing I came across in the individual vehicles was they made reference to a un-needed item called "secret". Having deleted those the vehicles now just show missing thumbnails. Cant see anything else.

Yes, it has been established in a former thread that there is a problem with that region. Pity.

ok only thing Asset-x could tell me was that I need to change build number to 3.6. Apart from that no errors found and still no vehicles.

I use the "Age of Steam" region but to get it to show the correct traffic in TS2009SP4, TS2010 and TS12 you have to modify the kuids for the cars and change the region config file. N3V changed the type classification for traffic from scenery to trackside objects in these Trainz versions.

There is a good tutorial post which Zec did a couple of years ago to guide you through the changes but at the moment I have not been able to find it.

An alternative thread on this is called "tc3 traffic in 2010"

Basically the method is clone the cars referenced as dependancies for the region. Convert the clones into trackside objects then change the list of car kuids in the region config file to reference the new kuid numbers.

Zec was going to produce a traffic convertor to make the task easier but I have not check the DLS yet.

I have now found Zec's traffic converter.

Kuid:103475:60029 Traffic Converter - Mesh Library

Regions created within the last couple of years will generally have cars in the newer format.

Thanks Scottish. That is most helpful.
Ive just gotten around to trying this out with one car and have a couple of questions about it that I am hoping someone can help out with.
First off the traffic converter will orientate the car the correct way round if it is facing the wrong way. But what if the car is already facing the right way? There does not seem to be an option for that and leaving out the option altogether causes a fault.
Second. It makes reference to the *.im mesh of the original vehicle. The problem I have come across is that the vehicle I choose has several *.im files. so what do I do when the vehicle has several *,im files? I input one *.im file and watched the body of the car going around quite happily - but it was only part of the car. When I attempted to add a second *.im file it became faulty. On this issue Im wondering if its just my lack of syntax knowledge on how to word it to accept multiple *.im files? Anyone got any clues?

Apart from that I can say that it does work. I need to try it out with other vehicles and would welcome some input - but it does put traffic on the roads.

Edit: In the readme file that gives the instructions on how to use it, Zek makes reference to a second part of the document to deal with the first issue. But there is no second part of the documentation.
