Change position of turntable arrows?

I created a transfertable. It works as a ferry. It transports trains approximately 4-kilometer on sea. It works correct.:Y:

I want to change position of arrows because my ferry route is long. Everybody know the turntable arrows are in the middle of turntable base area. (0,0,0)

Are the arrows established elsewhere? Do the arrows position change with ferry position? I want, always the arrows are near the ferry. :D

Thanks,

Gokcen

I know Vulcan and a few others have made assets using the transfertable and it never moves from its original location. If it could be done they probably would have done it.

hi Gokcen

As the distance is long, you would be better to make the ferry as a ferry (with tracks on top)

And this can be driven across the river.

It is possible to do it this way, so that trains can drive onto the ferry, be transported, then off the other side.

Hi barn700

I work to simulate a real ferry operation for real Turkish route. In Istanbul, trains are transported by ferries between Europe and Asia. (The transfer tunnel construction will finish in a few years.)

The ferries have 3 tracks on their decks. So, I cannot make a driveable ferry (like as train).

I have an idea. MoveTurntable command can use for launching ferries.
No arrow no problem :)

Yes you can make a driveable ferry (like as train), I have done it

Oh and welcome to the forums

Check my website, I have some Turkish steam locos (c 1945)

Yes, vulcan has done a three track transfer table operated rail float barge. You might want to look and see how he did it. One trick that I use with turntables in my routes is to put a fixed camera looking at the arrows so that I can always go to that view in driver and control the arrows.

My ferry had 2 tracks, it was used to cross from Leith (Scotland) to the other side of the river.

It was a long time ago I made for TRS2004, I will check and see if I have some pics of it.

It also had moveable ramps to go down to the ferry (as there is a rise and fall due to tide like in Istanbul)

I could drive wagons and a loco onto the ferry, then decouple and leave the wagons on the ferry, which then drove to the other side of the river to be picked up. Much the same as you want to do.

I have looked at your Facebook, I have Facebook too, with plenty of pictures too.

In your rive ferries:
Do wheels of wagon continue to turn on the ferry (like as train)?
And do wagons turn when the ferry turn a side?

@barn700
Therefore, this system arent similar real one.. :(

@napalm
Thanks. I have seen these project.

I think, my driver command idea is the best solution. :)

I have done extensive testing of Vulcan's barges. They all have a problem that he, as well as Auran, are aware of - that they can lock up the video screen while they move from one end to the other. A lot of this depends on where the camera is focused when the arrow is clicked. I came accross this problem when I was modifying Vulcans three track barge to travel to the far shore and return automatically with a new load of cars. Auran said the bug was not a high priority. Maybe if a lot of use start complaining about it, they will give it a fix. If anyone else has created a ferry barge system that works without locking up, I'd love to know about it.

Dap, that confirms what I have suspected. I have a completed route that uses two of those and I have never released it because of the crashes.

I try something on a barge. When there is not any problem, I add the real ferry model.
I try to add new features to ferry. Heeling, animated accessories, automation, etc. And, I wait new graphic card. Then; I will record a video about ferry operation, motion, etc...

By the way, heeling is not a good idea. Because, ferry heels; but, trains, that is on the ferry, don't heel. :) So, I cancelled to add heeling feature.

Two barge Transfers will guarantee a crash. It works sometimes with one.

Hi Guys,

As Dap has said, there is a problem with computer lockup when using transfer table ferries in TS2009 and 10. Auran are aware of it, and have been able to reproduce the problem with a normal turntable model. So far I have not heard of them providing a solution.

The red arrows are an inbuilt Trainz function, the creator does not have to create them. They appear in Trainz relative to the origin of the model, and are therefore fixed. Because I make the origin at the first ferry landing end, that is where they appear. You can make the actual model below the origin in 3dsmax and when placed in Surveyor, you need to pull it up out of the ground. The arrows then appear to be higher in the model, sometimes useful if a ship or aircraft obscures the red arrows.

The issue is that to click on the arrows you need to have some part of the table mesh behind the arrows, when clicking, otherwise they vanish. This requires the use of a large invisible plane as part of the model in some instances.

As you see you have very little control over the arrows, and they cannot travel with the moveable table. It is best to use the Move Turntable rule for large models, to operate the table instead of clicking on the arrows, which may be a long way from the moving table (ferry).

Yes you can make a barge model for instance as a train car to transport cars across normal track. It has severe limitations:

on curves, the transported cars move sideways on the deck, following the curvature;
you cannot fill the barge with cars, as the coupler attachment points need to be in from the ends;
the placement of bogeys and attachment points are critical for the model; and,
you can only load from one end.

You can find some details here:
http://www.ianztrainz.com.au/project7.htm

As you see, there are always limitations in what is possible with Trainz, but it can be fun to experiment.
