Carolina & Northwestern?

Can anyone give me information on the Carolina & Northwestern. All I know is that it ran from Chester, SC to Lenoir, NC (my hometown) untill Southern (SOU) disolved most of it.

I just can't find enough information about it.

The railroad was also nicknamed the "can't and never will".

Well, that's a harder one to research, but here's a start for you.

What happened to the 2-8-0 locomotive #537 which probaby is a k-class from the southern after the railroad switched to diesels in 1948?

Diesel Power

I relativley know that the power of the Lenoir branch 1960 onward was almost all Southern.
Usually RS-3s, GP30s, and GP38s
But I heard that Southern ordered 2 GP38s for C&NW in 1969.
I have only seen 1 picture of it and that was in 1982, it looked like it had a fresh coat of paint, so I think all the C&NW heritage had been erased.

C&NW provided Southern with their sole Alco RS-11. Southern ran it for a while, and traded it into either EMD or GE, who later ironically sold it to Chicago and North Western.

Many Topics

I think I saw that book at Barnes & Noble Last year, I,ve been wanting to get it since. I recently found that the Carolina & Northwestern Narrow Guage went along Wilson's Creek untill the 1916 flood. Now it's just a paradice for repulsive graffitiers and polluters!

Well I agree with all of you and Farthegn, you are correct! ever since the flood that area has been exposed to vandalism which I think is sickening!

Relics

There are artifacts of the logging company all over the place! On a fishing trip last month, I saw alot of old logging tools and concrete abutments a even a bridge.
