Car traffic

I have found a road that is just right for what I want, but there is too much traffic on it . is there a way to alter the amount in config.?

I tried the carrate addition but I get told it is obsolete in Trainz Plus 106618. sigh...

If you are referring to the 'Status' of the asset that is displayed in Content Manager then Obsolete simple means that a newer version is available. You should be making your changes to the newer version, not the obsolete one.

If you are referring to something else then you need to describe exactly where you are seeing this.

Can you explain How I clone the road Please.
Len

This doesn't work on built-in or DLC, but here's the gist of it.

In Content Manager:
Find your road you want to clone.
Highlight it.
Press CTRL and D (CTRL+D) to duplicate (clone) the asset.

Go to the open for edit view:
Find New Asset with the most recent date and time. (You may need to add in Modified Date column - right-click on columns and add that in if you don't have that).

Right click on the asset.
Choose Open config.txt for editing.

The config.txt will open up in Notepad...

Edit the Username line. Keep username and only change what's in the quotes and don't remove the quotes.

Find the carrate line.

Change that number to a smaller value than the one you see.

When done...

Save.
Close.

Back in Content Manager...

Right click on Open for edit asset.
Choose Submit.

Your asset is now done. Check faulty assets for errors.
If you don't see your new road, you're fine; if not, you need to check your work.

Very grateful John, as you have guessed I am not all that familiar with the intricacies of the game and it is a long learning curve but I am getting there with a lot of help and I hope you can bear with me.

Quick question: Can you make the vehicles travel faster? If not not a big deal but they seem a bit slow than most speed limits.

Thanks

Sean

Yes Sean, The good news is that it is possible to alter the speed of the vehicles on the road by making an alteration to the config file. A good friend of mine -Ben (prince271088) and I ended up doing quite a lot to fix road and traffic situations that needed "seeing to". Without going into all of that we worked out a better and more realistic road speed that was more in keeping with trainz. We found on testing that the vehicle standard trainz speed on a road was 18mph which is why they dawdle along the road.

On a test track we ran vehicles parallel to a train track. Using the odometer in the cab we paced the vehicles on the road until we could match the various speeds. Here is a list for you to copy into your configs from 5mph to 70mph using the most common increments. Add the tag line to a config for the speed you want your vehicles to travel at (note the quotes). Delete the (xxmph) as it is only for your information here. To use more than one speed then you will have to clone the road and enter the same information but with the new speed added. Save and submit.

traffic-speed "2.24" (5mph)

traffic-speed "4.47" (10mph)

traffic-speed "6.71" (15mph)

traffic-speed "8.94" (20mph)

traffic-speed "13.41" (30mph)

traffic-speed "17.88" (40mph)

traffic-speed "22.35" (50mph)

traffic-speed "26.82" (60mph)

traffic-speed "31.29" (70mph)

Your config should now look something like this...with possible variations....

username "Road name 15mph" (call the road what you like)
category-class "TR"
trainz-build 3.7
kind "track"
istrack 1
isroad 1
isfreeway 1
numlanes 1
carrate 0 = Set to zero so enter the number you prefer to use.
traffic-speed "6.71"
surveyor-only 1

mesh-table (etc).............

Have fun

Doug

There have been newer versions of 2 and 4 lane Yarnish roads by username emcnally added to the DLS that are identical to the old ones except for the speed.

And the speed is in the name so you can easily find them without having to look at the config file.

Kudos to emcnally.
