Hi,

Iv'e just purchased the Settle-Carlisle,but would like to add some new textures to hills and country side, how do I go about this as the edit route
is greyed out, would like to clone if possible.

Daz

If you've got TS12 SP1 don't bother trying to edit the route. The route is locked so it cannot be edited however it may be possible to create new sessions.

Thank's Shane for the quick reply and advice,It's not really new sessions I wanted to create but a new paint job for the country side,I remember years ago I could edit and re-texture all day long, are you saying
if I have an install without SP1 I could then edit?the route wont be locked.

Daz

Thank's again Shane, such a shame it's locked after SP1,I really liked that route, maybe a warning stating you can't edit or clone should be made visible on the sellers page,I'm disappointed
I can't edit this to my own taste.

Thank's

Settle and Carlisle Edits

This excellent route sadly seems to be locked against editing all over the place.
I do not seem to be permitted to edit or clone the route at all, and editing or cloning any of the pre-defined sessions is also seems to be locked out.
The only thing that does appear to be permitted is the creation of new sessions.

I do not recall being made aware of this at the time of purchase.

If route editing were permitted the experienced user could, for example, link this excellent route to the ECML via the branch from Garsdale to Hawes which, at one time, joined the ECML just north of Northallerton.

Come on Trainz, please tell us how to unlock this route for editing, not to overwrite the original, but to save different versions of both the route and the sessions.

Thanks,

This is the ugly side of DRM!!!

If you bought the original Settle and Carlisle you could add it to TS2009, TS2010, or TS12 pre SP1 then modify the sessions as much as you wanted, although working on a clone was preferable. However, since SP1 where the S&C add-on downloads automatically you can no longer do anything with the route, session or any of the dependencies as they are are all protected by the privileges container in the asset. This is also the case where the exact same asset without the privileges container is available on the DLS with the same Kuid version. Any problems with the servers which results in the game not being able to validate the assets results in the loss of ALL assets that use any of these assets as dependencies and is not restricted to the S&C route and sessions. This has caused many problems for Trainz users and is probably the biggest irritation for users (I could have put this a lot stronger but would probably be banned for doing so).
As you say N3V needs to do something to make these routes and sessions available and for the assets not to be so destructive of our routes and sessions when things go wrong at their end.

The BIG issue for me is when the N3V servers are down Trainz becomes unusable. So if the servers are down a week, as they were several months ago, then Trainz for the user is also down for a week.

Thanks for your response dnevans8. Sorry I have not replied before but I have been away from Trainz for a while. Hopefully we will get a positive response from N3V soon.

I made a copy of an un-editable route and it let me make changes to that. Just edit the route, and do a 'Save-as'.

Good Luck

Bill

Most routes from the dls require a copy to be made before they can be edited using the method you describe or cloning first in CM.

However, DLC routes like those that make up the S&C DLC add-on package for TS12 SP1 do NOT allow copies or clones or any form of editing due to the privileges set in the config.txt file. If you have the routes in earlier versions of Trainz it is possible to clone them and transfer them to TS12 and edit them as was possible in Trainz before TS12 SP1.
