can't download

Since I reinstalled 2012 in 64 bits, in april, I am not being able to download one single bit.
I baught a 6 months FCT, I am logged regularly, I have serial number ok (BTW I have almost all editions since 2004) I can see the assets in DS, I can see datails, but when I try to download, the things become red, and nothing works.
I submitted the problem to Helpdesk, but since april I have no more answers; they said they were having problems with DS and were struggling to fix them. So far, nothing. Maybe they are too busy, or maybe a 8 years custommer is not so important, so I decided to come to the forum in the hope that somebody else had and solved this problem.
Trainz whithout DS is senseless, doesn't work...

Run the program as administrator.
Ensure that your internet settings are correct in Content Manager.
Ensure that your login is correct in Content Manager.
Check your firewall and antivirus to ensure that nothing is blocking Content Manager from connecting to the internet.

John

Well John, I runned the program as administrator.
Login seems correct, as I have access to DS files, can see details etc... and username and password are the same that give access to this forum etc...
In firewall I included Launch Trainz 2012 to alowed programs. Lasts 2 details:
- internet settings, has 3 options. "No proxi setting" is activated by default. I tryed "use internet explorer settings" to no avail. Keep on receiving the nasty message:" Unable to download asset... couldn't obtain a download URL. Item cannot be found in download station" what sounds absurd, because I can see the asset I just asked to be downloaded.
So, from the things you poited above, the only item I didn't check was internet setting option "manual proxi setting" something I know nothing about, and antivirus setting; I looked for in AVG but found nothing related to content manager blocking.
BTW, I unistalled and installed the game from scratch with build 46957 that I still didn't upgrade.
I run a 3,8 ghz quadra processor, with 8gb ram.
Thanks for your attention
Walter

In addition to John's advice;

- run the Network Diagnostic test from within Content Manager to make sure it can connect to the internet and Auran/N3V sites. If anything fails there, you need to investigate and fix that first.
- if connections are OK, run an Extended Database Repair on Content Manager (not just a Quick Database Repair).

I have been through the same problems recently with TS2010. Extended Database Repair was the only thing that made a real difference. See HERE for details. Probably no need to change anything with proxy settings.

Runned diagnostic, everything passed except this:

Error: Download should have failed but did not.
Error: Test 'host failure' failed.
Error: Download failed - error 2.
Error: Test 'ftp dls' failed.
Error: Download failed - error 2.
Error: Test 'ftp firstclass' failed.

Then i made a extended repair database, and to no avail. Download fails.
Thanks

It seems that your problem is a little different to mine. In my case, the Network Diagnostics all passed, yours have not.

So, your computer is not 'talking' to the Auran servers for some reason. As I said before, you need to fix those network communication problems first. Database repairs will not do any harm, but I don't believe they can solve the connection problem. Sorry, I don't have the ability to help you further at this point, but at least you know where your problem is.

Maybe someone with better knowledge of what the error messages mean can suggest a solution. It might help if you posted the complete Network Diagnostics results, not only the failures.

P.S.: helpdesk finaly answered, and asked me a few questions.

I've had this problem for over a year and have tried everything to resolve it with no success. I think the helpdesk has given up as they have not responded for over a month. Please let me know if you have a solution as my Network Diagnostic is identical to yours.

The Helpdesk has not given up, they've just got a massive backlog and not enough staff to keep up. Update your ticket to bring it forward in the queue.

I've had a ticket open on this issue for a while now. Help desk currently thinks the issue is with me or my ISP, and I'm trying to find out what port(s) the game uses for downloads so my ISP can tell me if they are blocking it. There's also this thread on the forum, which may be germane: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?83236-FTP-problem-with-content-Manager.

Good Luck to all of us! :)

Ports 20 for data transfer and port 21 for the control, some routers, not so many these days though, block the FTP ports unless you allow them in the routers firewall.
just posted in the other thread, if the connection is dropping out on ftp, check your MTU values are correct for the ISP.

Can you tell us what your firewall's inbound and outbound rules are regarding the following Trainz components?

- trainzutil.exe
- contentmanager.exe
- taddaemon.exe
- trainz.exe

Firewall is provided by Norton Internet Security, and all four of those components are set for "Allow". However, even when I uninstalled Norton completely and disabled Windows 7 Firewall and Windows Defender, it made no difference, I still could not connect.

i also cant download even a single bit from last month.whenever i press start it says server full.but i can download from ftp

Just to check, you are not running two firewalls at once? as that will cause problems.

A few ideas that have worked in various cases of DLS connection problems.

In the internet settings in Content Manager remove the tick from use IE settings and tick No proxy server, save, close Content manager, reboot PC and then start CM and try to download. Most peoples systems will work with IE settings or no Proxy server,

Alternatively if its already on no Proxy change to IE save reboot etc

Occasionally the IE option won't work, try setting your IE security settings to default.

Clear the DNS cache in case there is a stale failed login / connection cached that hasn't got deleted. Run, cmd, type ipconfig /flushdns <enter>

Clear out all temporary files both internet and system and cookies, Trainz uses a cookie on logging in and there are temporary files that are somewhere in the system folders that don't always get deleted.

Unlikely but possible, check your Hosts file in case some friendly security program has put an entry in there to block the DLS FTP server thinking its dodgy site, if it is blocked it will have have the entry 127.0.0.1 firstclass.auran.com (files.auran.com if not FCT)

Try using different DNS servers, open DNS which I can't remember offhand or Googles which are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, it's possible its your ISP's DNS server that's the problem.

Try this, leaving the original where it is now, copy the whole Trains install to a different location, say C:\N3V which will avoid any Microsoft interference, set up Run as administrator on all the executable files, include those in the bin folder and exclude the trainz folder from any on access scanning from AV or other security type programs. Run direct from Trainz.exe making sure you OK and allow any firewall or AV messages, If there is anything blocking the original install downloading, running from a different location should avoid that problem. You can have several copies of Trainz just by copying them, you don't have to install Trainz to get it to work as the registry entries are created when you first run it, with the exception of the file association for cdp which you can do manually.

Just checked using current ports and CM establishes contact on Port 21 and downloads using HTTPS on 443, unlikely to be a problem with 443 or you would have not been able to use any secure sites.

I am using Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. I have manually gone into the firewall and set up permissive rules for Trainz and all its components.

Thank you for your suggestions. Most of them were new to me. Unfortunately, I have now tried all of them, and the problem is still with me ... :(

eta: Re ports --- yeah, I can use secure sites, no problem. And I'm able to make contact with the Auran servers, and get the list of dependencies for the file I want, which suggests that port 21 is working fine, too. Heck, I can even download individual files from the DLS via the ftp server, but that's just not practical for hundreds of files for routes or game updates ...
