Can you change the view height in 2012 Surveyor?

Is there a way of changing the draw back view distance in Surveyor to give a wider view before going into map mode? I find it to be too close in sometimes when working over a large area. There was a way of changing it in 2009, but I'm not sure if it can be done in 2012 before slipping into the map mode?

Thanks!

In addition to the mouse wheel, use the four arrow keys.

Left/right will provide the lateral movement.

Up/down arrows will vary the vertical angle of view. Together with the mouse wheel you should be able to move some way back.

The space bar will usually take you, in very short steps, in the direction last moved using RMB+move mouse to travel over the terrain. These results apply when the compass movement in Surveyor Options is set to mouse. The behaviour is slightly different when set to keys.

You may also be able to change the -surveyorfov value for a higher number in the trainzoptions.txt file if you want a generally wider angle of view in Surveyor. I say may because I don't have TS12, but I'm guessing that all of this is still possible.

I guess I didn't explain what I was looking for clearly enough. I know how to navigate around like that. It's the field of view I want to change - so I can scroll back farther before it slips in map view and still edit content. I had done that in 2009, but couldn't recall how. Mezzoprezzo has it right, but there is no surveyorfov in the TS12 trainzoptions text file anymore. There is a cabinfov for the view inside the train cab, but not Surveyor. Looks like they did away with the ability to modify that. I did searches for it, but came up blank. Could it be called something different now? Thanks!

My trainzoptions.txt file only contains the options which were assigned when the game was first loaded, plus a few extras which I added from the 37 which are available.

From memory, I added -surveyorfov at a later stage.

I sometimes change the value to 100 for a really wide angle shot, or 45 when doing close up detailed work. Mostly it's set to what I believe is the default value of 55.

I wonder if you could open the trainzoptions.txt file (I use notepad) and simply add it?

Here's how my entry is assigned (it needs the minus character at the start of the line):

-surveyorfov=55

It worked! I added the line to the text file and it works great! Thank you!

Now I'm curious what those other 37 lines you added were?

Trainzoptions list

I found a list of trainzoptions in this Wiki entry.

There are a few more than I thought.

I’d advise caution when making any changes to some of the more obscure offerings. I remember having serious scenery problems where the ground polygons were tearing and leaving awful blue visual defects in my distant landscapes when I changed one of them.

Fortunately all of my mountains and hillsides returned to normal when I reset the entry to the original value, but it was a lesson learned!
