Can Anyone Tell Me on Building track

Is it really necessary to build track in one direction. (left to right) or (right to left) and two tracks one in each direction? I know you don't need it if you use a person or persons to run the trains. I have never found anything on this in the "rule book" that came with the game. Is this just for the artificial intelligence.? Deisan

Hi Don,

It doesn't matter which direction you lay the track, according to N3V. Any of the old messages regarding train direction of travel and the track laid-down direction are false rumors. The only thing the track direction affects is placed objects such as track objects - signals speed limit signs, switch junctions, and of course train consists.

I hope this answered your question.

To back up what John said, you can have tracks going in every direction possible. In one example, I have a wye with another track going right the middle. I have run AI trains through this Complex junction for 3 years now with no problems. Even when encountering a 4 way meet, there has never been problem.

As John mentioned, it is the ease with which later trackside objects are placed that track direction really makes a difference. Not having to rotate them after they are placed makes route building slightly more pleasant.

I always lay track in the general direction that traffic will flow, as when you place cars, and a consist, it makes them lay in the correct direction ... I have heard that it is an urban myth that it is necessary, but I am a perfectionist about track direction.

Diesan,

I agree with the others that it's probably more an urban myth that you'll strike problems, but I'm the same as Cascade,
I'd rather lay my tracks in the up or down direction of train travel just to keep things in order for myself.

I too belong to Cascade's club here. (Maybe we should have a Cascade Club Car or something!)

I too like my track laid in the direction of travel. It's just easier when placing signals and other track objects.

Just a note for the newbie,If you lay a one way Street/Road (IE Freeway 01)you lay them in the opposite direction to have them spawn traffic to go the correct direction.

Norm.

The penny just droped John.

Before I get to that penny I went back to my files and found the source of my concern over direction of travel. This was in a write up by Chuck Brite that I obtained when I was considering getting into Trainz in 2009. It was at the beginning of Part two of his Track laying tutorial named "Track Direction". I gave it little thought when I started in Dec.2012 because I had hoped to get some of my former operators into multi train way freight operation. Since that does not work with cars remaining in sidings for one or more sessions, I was trying to get my grandsons into the game. That's when I remembered something about building track in one direction. As for the penny. It dawned on me that you sent me a private "e-mail" concerning My Signature's logo. This occurred on the day of my first back operation and I never saw it until I finally started Trainz up with my son's help a month or more latter. I can't recall if I or my son apologized for being tardy in responding to your request. We did remove the logo right after seeing your note. Don
