Can a scenario be created WITHOUT the ability for drivers to control trains?

I downloaded Port Ogden and Northern and a scenario called PO&N 1a Steelmaking. Very cool scenario, BUT, the only thing I've been able to do is to order a driver to couple to a consist. When I order him to take a coal load to a power station, he just sits there and does nothing. I tried waiting a VERY long time for something to happen, but it doesn't. The same thing has happened with other industries in this scenario. Is it possible that the designer has somehow DEACTIVATED the computer driver so that only a human can drive the different waybill orders? And if so, is there any way of reversing it so I CAN assign a driver to make deliveries?

Thanks in advance,
Dep

Hi
I think you have got the wrong end of the stick.
the whole idea of these SESSIONS, not scenarios (totally different) is that YOU drive the loco and do the work.

with Phils route there are so many direction markers to stop the AI trains going on the wrong track it's impossible to get a driver to 'drive to' anywhere.

go on, get your hands dirty, it's fun.

cheers

Well I tried making my own "session". Driver STILL wouldn't drive the train. The most he did was couple cars that were right next to him. I drove the whole thing. I took a load of coal to what was supposedly a power station that had a waybill that said it needed coal. But when I went to the loading ramp....nothing. It wouldn't unload. So I ended up dumping the load at a local industry that was right next door. THAT the driver was able to handle on his own. I am not a big fan of DIY when it comes to driving trains. The fun for me is dispatching other drivers to do the jobs. Only time I get involved at all is if there is a conflict where I need to clear a track for a loco to be able to continue on.
Since it appears there is no way I can get this layout to work the way I like it, it's history on my comp

When you setup your session, make sure you setup the power plant to accecpt coal. Check the properties to make sure this is enabled. If it isn't it won't do anything. Also when you deliver coal, you have to go really slow - like less than 5 mph to dump the coal at the power plant.

Hope this helps,
John

I just dumped the whole layout. It just wasn't my cup of tea....or Diet Pepsi :hehe: Too many directional markers and other stuff that needed to be removed and fiddled with. Too bad...it sure was a well-constructed route.

Hi Dep --

I've been away for a while and I am only now just catching up with the older threads.

As Roy points out, PO&N is not quite a typical Trainz route. It's designed to appeal to those who might like an opportunity to act as the Chief Executive, Dispatcher and Engineer of a Class 3 railroad. This does mean that at some stage you will need to get your bum in the engineer's seat of a locomotive and drive from one location to another.

There is a separated track for AI trainz, with interaction with player trains at squeeze points. Interaction with the AI trainz is meant to add an additional layer of interest to the route.

The route can be modified if you do want to sit back and watch it all happen under programmed AI.

All that you need to do is start at one extremity of the AI route. I'd suggest at Portal cH:

PON_portals.jpg

Follow the concrete AI track to the other extremity of the AI route. At all the squeeze points you will find direction markers on the track with wooden sleepers. These help prevent the AI trainz wandering where they should not. Remove all the direction markers, save the route as, say, "PO&N Me", and you should find that you can program the AI trainz to access all the route and industries.

Hope this helps.

Phil
