C&O Signals

Hi guys,

Has anybody ever thought of modeling the C&O or their unique tri-light signals? The cantilever style bridges were a C&O trademark and still survive today in some areas, although CSX is rapidly replacing them all in anticipation of PTC. Modeling of these for Trainz would be a great addition to eastern routes, specifically former C&O, or even fictional routes. The C&O had some of the most unique interlockings around and had quite a variety of signal installations.

Modeling of the signal bridges and signal head assemblies separately would allow the end user to customize signal interlockings just like the C&O did with ease.

I'm very intrested this signals, like CPL signals. But i have no time for this. Maybe in future....

BTW, this signals very similar with Russians signals!

Glad someone has an interest in them, even though they can't be done right now. I wish they could, or I could learn how to model. I've become very keen with texture drawing, painting, and weathering, but have just never mastered modeling. I was an MSTS member for a LONG time, and have now converted to Trainz. Eventually, I would like to build a CSX Former-C&O route modeling Kentucky, West Virginia, and Ohio through some of my old stomping ground some day, and of course include all the old signals as they are a huge staple to the route.

C&O had some interesting elevated signal relay cabinets in the Ohio River Valley also due to flooding:

Note the new signals being installed and the old C&O phone box forward of the signal relay house

I like the Union Switch & Signal vertical colorlight signals too... one of my projects was to make a high-detail model of the US&S style R-2 for Trainz, but I haven't worked on it in well over a year. East Coast Trainz's Seaboard Air Line trackside signal set (available here; a couple of C&O cantilevers are available there too, for what it's worth) are models of such US&S signals, though set up for Seaboard signal rules according to the description.

There is a set of C&O cantilever bridges and other piece parts at the site in my signature, look under East Coast Trainz Download page.

As for the signals I think you could get away with using some of the built in stuff, let me look at it and give you some idea....

EDIT:

Signal USA 2 series , Signal 2 xxx series and Signal 3 xxx series which are built in are pretty close to what the C&O had....... That should give you a good start.
