Buy TS2010

My computer won't run the most recent releases and, based on readings and videos, my choice is with TS 2010.
Now the big question: is there a way to buy it? (much) Preferably in digital format.

What are the specs of your computer? TS12 gives better frame rates with the same assets and viewing distances as TS2010. There is also a better range of assets available with fewer errors. I've run TANE on intel integrated graphics series 4000.

WinXP, 3.7go RAM (limited by 32bits), Intel i3 3.31Ghz processor, NVidia Geforce GTX 560 1Go.

Based on OS, TANE is out. I plan to get a new computer by the end of the year, but I'd still like something to play with in the meantime. I don't mind if it's old (I just bought MS Flight Simulator X, if anything).

But let's go with a full disclosure here: since reviews and threads about performance were numerous but not consistent (some, like you, say TS12 runs great, others don't), and since no demo exists of the games, I "acquired" them to give each a try. Turns out TS12 runs great for a while, and then goes down the drain when switching views. I've seen threads with other people having that issue and no real solution. So I tested TS2010 and it runs like a charm. Considering I don't see a ton of difference between the two games, I've decided to go with TS2010. If I end up really liking this type of game, I'll consider more modern versions down the line.

So, with that out of the way, is there a way to buy TS2010 ? :)

Reviews on Amazon definitely made me run the opposite way :/ Getting a legit key might be the best solution.

What about patching by the way? Is Engineer's the very last version or would patches be needed? If needed, is N3V still offering them?

It is either TRS2006, TS12, or T:ANE SP2 (which was/is still on sale at the N3V Store "Downunder Winter Sale" for $9.99)

09 and 10 were a premature bust, and TS12 quickly replaced them

You need a 64bit PC, preferably a Desktop Tower, with a very good video card

As Trainz is very demanding on a PC, the game really rules out using almost ALL "Low End" laptops that have on-motherboard integrated graphics CPU chips

TS10 is a good and reliable version. I ran it for years on a machine similar to yours. I still have it on my later machine, along with Tane SP1 and use Ts10 on a regular basis to repair my older assets for Tane.
Good luck with you search.
Cheers,
Mike

TS10 performance is not as good as TS12 ... and likewise TS12 is not as good as T:ANE SP2 ... TS10 does not play any easier, performance wise, on a "Low End" laptop than TS12, or T:ANE does

Set the sliders back and run TS12. The biggest thing on performance are the assets and there are many more times the number of assets for TS12 than for TS2010. As TS12 tightened up on the errors and things like LOD the overall quality of the assets available for TS12 is higher than TS2010. Also the scripting is more solid. Although TANE is the latest version many content creators continue to create for TS12 since it also runs in TANE. This was a design goal for TANE by the way.

So I suggest buying TANE download for $9.99 today since its reduced from $40. and pick up a copy of TS12 for $14.99, again reduced from $30 https://store.trainzportal.com/products/trainz-simulator-12

You may wish to buy a First Class Ticket these are currently $27 for a year for unlimited downloads from the download station you can get by without but you are limited to 100 MB per day. They do go on sale from time to time.

Also be aware that many elements of TS2010 do not sit well with Win 10 or modern graphics, DirectX etc, many textures may just display as black. Even with an unofficial patch may not solve the issue. You also have to play around with settings to get it to display full screen, not just a small window in the top RH corner.

TS2010 was a classic in its day but was frankly end of life two or three years ago.

Your best bet would be 2006. Judging by OS and processer speeds, that's your best bet. Trainz 09/10/12 will struggle to keep up on that sorta hardware. Trust me, i had a similar speced tower a few years back. It didn't like trainz AT ALL.

You're running Win XP on an older computer the same as I do for running TS2009 and TC3, so TS2010 should run fine. I've tried TS2012 on my quad core Xeon computer and I don't really like it or get on with it as I hate everything about the 'improvements' to Surveyor which just makes it harder to use for no real benefit to my mind. If I do use TS2012 I don't try to build anything and I just use routes as they come and don't try doing anything with them. TS2012's bundled routes are all awful anyway and are of absolutely no interest to me or anyone else who isn't a diesel kisser or likes running trains from countries nobody has ever heard of. As for Trainz: A New Error, - forget it.
There's nothing wrong with running the older versions of Trainz and if that's what you want to do then go for it. A lot of content on the DLS still works fine with the older versions and some assets marked as being for TS2012 are just the same old ones for an earlier version of Trainz with a new build version number and are easy to back date again.
