Building an EL (elevated city railroad)

This is one of three questions I'm posting today. I have several things I want to include in my "layout," and I'm doing the preliminary research. That being said...

My layout has two cities, and I want at least one of them to have an "EL," not unlike the one in Chicago. Has anyone ever done this? I'm looking for recommendations on useful resources for building a city railroad of this type.

This elevated city rail would be a largely automated thing that runs in the background while the player manages one of the freight or passenger trains. It would also serve as a means of feeding the passenger terminals in and around the city it services. At least two of these terminals are also served by the main line.

If it matters, I'm using TS2010. The option of upgrading to TS2012 is still open.

Thanks in advance, and keep on 'tracking!

Hi RJPugh,

Ish6 and Jeff Morris made some EL bridges. They are very simply constructed and should work for what you want. I don't know how accurate they are, but I know they are there. They may even be built in now since they have been around for quite some time.

If you are interested in more bridge-like content, look at some of the arch bridges by Ray_Wiley. These are British, but they are similar to what I've seen when I was in New York City, many. many years ago.

Hope this helps. I'm sure others will have some more feedback on this.

One of the built-in routes (Municipal Transit Railroad) has a metro session. Half of that track work is elevated above the streets. I noticed in the description of the tracks that they are for TS2009 and TS2010. Check out these:
TUME-TW-Gravel-Dusty-02-3dR,<kuid2:82412:611171:1>
TUME-TB-Steel-Wood-01-3dR,<kuid2:82412:611176:1>
TUME-TB-Steel-Wood-02-3dR,<kuid2:82412:611177:1>
TUME-TB-Steel-Wood-03-3dR,<kuid2:82412:611178:1>
I am not sure if these are available outside TS12, but they are related to the above track:
TUME-Station-E-110x7m-101,<kuid2:82412:5000071:1>
TUME-Station-E-110x7m-201,<kuid2:82412:5000072:1>
TUME-Support-E-RR-30-7m-101,<kuid2:82412:5000081:1>
TUME-Support-E-RR-17-7m-101,<kuid2:82412:5000082:1>
TUME-Support-E-RR-10-7m-101,<kuid2:82412:5000083:1>

I have some 81 'high level' assets on the DLS - stations, viaducts, etc. - I don't know whether they would be of any interest. All names begin 'DDD HL ...', some have attached track which can be changed by simply editing the config file.

These track components look good; I should be able to build what I want with them. What I need now is an FAQ on how to build elevated city tracks. Those extra-tight curves are hard to set up!
