British Mills/Industrial Buildings

Learning... slowly!
Hi guys,

I'm looking to make a small fictional layout based around a small yard for a mill/factory kind of place, based in industrial West Yorkshire - those who responded to my question about route building told me to start small and do something I'm familiar with, so here goes!

I don't have the skills to produce my own buildings at this stage so wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction to some British mill, factory, warehouse, workshop or other stone industrial buildings that are available on the DLS? I'm never quite sure what to search for any most of the US ones are too big for a UK themed layout.

As examples, I'm interested in the kind of buildings found in the centre of Bradford, in many of the small towns around Huddersfield, in Saltaire, Bradford, Hebden Bridge, Dewsbury, Armley Mills & Thwaite Mills in Leeds etc etc, made of stone and relics of the industrial revolution. Ideally I'd like a mixture of single- and multiple-storey buildings to create a small complex.

If anyone is familiar with any such buildings available on the DLS, I'd be grateful for some tips on what names to search for.

Thanks!

I recommend downloading LMS Leeds - Sheffield by driver_col. It is a great route that includes many of the types of asset that I think you are looking for, and they are all on the DLS.

Just what I was going to say!

A tip, that you may well be familiar with is, to use the pick-list feature. Open up the Leeds-Sheffield route in Surveyor, open the scenery/objects tab and take a look round. When you find a building you like the look of, use the grab tool to highlight it in the objects list. Open up the pick-list (looks like a funnel in top left of screen) and drag the object name from the scenery/objects tab over to the pick list.
When you come to build your own route, all the objects are preserved in the picklist, as so can be found again very easily.

Good luck with route-building!

Hi

Look for author 'masontaylor' who has various kit buildings of the type that you are looking for in both brick and stone.

I would also suggest giving the pick list a specific new name such as Leeds buildings or MY Choice as if you do not it will all end up in the pick list chosen by N3v.
Also you can run CM in one Tain window and Surveyor in another Tain window and cut and paste.
Hope this helps in your selecting the buildings as I am going through the same situation on my new route..
Ones by 'masontaylor' are really to be recommended even though they are Scottish based....They can be slow to construct as you are kit building and they do not remain as one entity if you pick them in surveyor mode BUT with care on selecting you can cut and paste ....
Good hunting

Dom Sarto made some nice mill buildings that might be useful for you as well. His assets begin with DS.

The pick list is the way to go to get the assets. I do that all the time. :)
