With many thanks to the TC3 crew for such an outstanding trio of steam locomotives.

I am confused....

Phil,

I am confused. Did you convert Port Ogden & Northern to TC3 or did you convert those steamers from TC3 to TRS2006?

Actually neither, though it's closer to the latter than the former.

I converted the TC3 locomotives into TRS2004. I thought it was easier to convert the locomotives rather than try to import all of my routes.

Here's the 8F and Britannia's again, this time on "RiversideRailroad":

Is there any interest in exporting from TC3 into TRS2004?

Wow.:eek: That is amazing Phil. I thought that TC3 had new physics rules and particial effects that would make those TC3 locos useless in TRS2004. How do they run?

What the...? :eek:

Geez Phil, the Poms would never allow their poncey locos on such a manly railway. :cool: Put the Britannia and the Bigboy back to back and see just who pulls whom! :hehe:

It's a great idea converting TC3 stuff into 04 but where do we get them from? :confused:

Cheers

Hi Nix --

Paul's' correct - you do need TC3. Plus a working knowledge of CMP + TrainzObjectz + how to reconfigure the TC3 config.txt file so that it will work in TRS2004/06. It's actually not all that difficult.

The difficulty is in deciding whether to get the TC3 locos into TRS2004, or routes + rolling stock + all the other kit from TRS2004 into TC3.

I've got the locomotives I want into TRS2004. I've now got "Port Ogden & Northern" into TC3, but I think that's as far as I want to go.

Paul's partly correct with his comment " ... loosing the particle effects and the new steam sounds in the process... ". There are many endearing features of TC3, but it's still not the great leap forward I'd like to see. Maybe TRS2009?

"I thought that TC3 had new physics rules and particial effects that would make those TC3 locos useless in TRS2004. How do they run?"

Extremely well. I aliased the enginespec to the SAR 520 class, which is a very free steaming locomotive, and had to tinker with the smoke effects. It's excellent - the head codes, livery and name choices, animated couplers, the animated throttle on the Britannia, ... all work. The main missing feature is the 4 chuffs per revolution and the 8F cab. The Britannia cab is fine in TRS2004.

TC3 into TRS 04

Yes there is! :)

Hi Phil!

This is a very interesting thread because I have TRS04/TRS06/TC1+2 and I have just received and installed the TC3. However I prefer working and playing with good old TRS04 version. I have managed to get the Stanier 5MT 4-6-0 BR Black into TRS04 but unfortunately the Steam engine is driving around without any smoke and a wrong cab (I deal with the cab later). So my question is how did you tinker the “smoke” in the config file? :o

Best regards

Jacob

Hi Jacob --

For the Britannia and 8F I used the configuration taken from another locomotive with smoke effects that I particularly liked, one of Ben Neals. My TRS2004 versions look like this:

smoke0 {
attachment "a.smoke0"
mode "speed"
color 40,40,40,255
start 0,4,8,12
rate 3,7,11,15
velocity 1,2,3,4
lifetime 8,10,11,12
minsize 0.3
maxsize 1.5,5,5,5
}
smoke1 {
attachment "a.smoke0"
mode "anim"
color 200,200,200
start 0,0.25,0.5,0.75
period 0.24
rate 1
velocity 3
lifetime 8
minsize 0.5
maxsize 7
}

"However I prefer working and playing with good old TRS04 version."

I certainly prefer working in TRS2004, but I do find frame rates and the colorization better in TC3. My real gripe with TC3 is when the train glues itself to the track at an interactive industry, and then it just refuses to move. See here:

Hi ish --

Thanks.

From my post #3 above:

"I converted the TC3 locomotives into TRS2004. I thought it was easier to convert the locomotives rather than try to import all of my routes."

Well, I did import both PO&N and Riverside into TC3. There were a few hiccups, like the need to rotate all north-south industries by 0.1 degrees.

There's a thread of mine in the TC3 forum about this. And links to the site where the routes can be downloaded. Sessions too.

I pleased that this little "feature" is not part of TRS2009.
