Hello All,

Can anyone shed light on a reference to a “Stop Board” on the branch between Bodmin General and Bodmin Road, it features in the timetable for goods and mineral trains with a P. I don't have the full table so lack the suffix meanings. Any help much appreciated.

Regards,

Stop and Pin down brakes.

There's a pretty vicious gradient down to Bodmin Road from General, and unbraked goods trains would have to stop to pin down a certain number of wagon brakes to prevent the train from running away down the slope.

Hello Stovepipe,

Thanks very much that explains It very well. They allow twenty minutes for goods trains to cover the 4 odd miles point to point. I had thought the were horse drawn after speed and distance calculations!

Many thanks,
