Boats and Ships

Hi Community,

After doing a search at the DLS, I figure I post my 2 cents here, and simply ask your suggestions on any boats and ships that would recommend from the DLS, that I might have missed!

Thanks in advance!!:)

Hi Ishie,

Can you give us a bit more of an idea of what types you are looking for?

Small boats, commercial shipping, International, US ,etc.

I have downloaded a fair few and will search my local folder for the types you want (otherwise it will be a long list of, possibly irrelevant, KUIDS)!

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you for responding...

Looking for historical types, for example Queen Mary-types and steamers, however, any suggestions from your end, which types I should use for this purpose, will be welcome here...

I know there are a few at the DLS, but none of my keyword surfaces any. These will serve as window dressing at the harbor I have set up on a layout!

Thanks again, and take care!
Ishie

Hi Ish,
Try a description search for 'ship' - it will return a bunch of other things, but also a lot of ships.
Also, try title searches for 'steam ship', 'schooner', 'sail', or 'tramp'

Hope that helps!

Hello Curtis,

Thank you sir for your suggestions -- I have tried a few, and yes, I am getting some results!!

Appreciated, take care my dear friend!!:)

there are a couple battleships that may fit what your looking for. I'm not 100% on what to search for; try: "HMS" "USS" "Navy" "USN"

I'd love to see the Queen Elizabeth and the QE2.

Did you know? Pikabird and I produced the first ever ship for Trainz. Wow, I feel important!

It was a little container ship, the name of which I've forgotten. I did the plans and Pickabird built it with gMax almost overnight. great team effort I thought.

DLS searches on "ferry", "boat", and barge. All three bring up quite a number of items from diverse eras and sizes. There is also a hovercraft. I have found some items which I have not been able to download; DLS shows some content from UK branchlines which includes a cruise ship, for example. And there are a few types of watercraft I have not yet found: a modern barge towboat (there are some on the DLS, but they are quite small, and could not handle the large barge assemblages I regularly see on navigable waters); a raft (think Huck Finn), and Native American inspired watercraft: kayaks and canoes.

Hi Ish,

Try a search for Author = "Vulcan" (or "Barry" - UK Canals) , might get you a couple. Will check out my local folder when I get back to my Trainz machine - don't think that there are many that fit your description though.

Cheers

I forgot to mention, I have the Assets section open on my site for a few days. There's a listing for ships but I decided not to go ahead with the section before it was finished.

Take a look, there are a few things there.

Hi Ish,

Here is a list of Authors with boating related content that I have downloaded:

Pencil42
Brook
Pascalvds
Lotharhake
Jytte
Kenichiro
dalliance
Smileyman
cab
transit

(not to forget the aforementioned Vulcan and Barry)

The list is in no particular order.

You might want to try further searches of the DLS using other language versions of keywords - e.g. "Schiff" (Ship) "Boot" (Boat) etc - translations can be obtained from the internet. I tried this once for fences using the german word and came up with a large number of assets!

Cheers

Hi Jk,

Your Trainz Resources Directory is a great place to stop and peak around... everything one needs to success with trainz is there, thank you or setting it up -- I hope newbies as well as veterans around these parks stop and look at your site!!!

I'm on the laptop now, but later today when I'm at the desktop I'll give it a gook look!!!!

Hi Chris,

Thank you for taken the time to set that list up for all of us to view. It's greatly appreciated from my end.

The language is something I have not thought of, great suggestion, thank you!!

Thanks for the kind words Ishie. As mentioned above, the Assets section will not be part of the directory in future. The small chunk I did do took too long to set up so I decided to pull the plug and concentrate on other parts of the Directory instead. Pity really. It would be fantastic to continue it, but I need the help of the actual content creators by preparing their own listings. Unfortunately they're not prepared to do that. Other sections that have failed for similar reasons are the Routes and Screenshot of the Week sections.

I thought people would jump at the opportunity to have their handiwork listed, but they're not the least bit interested. I re-activated the asset section a couple of days ago so a few people on the forums could see it, but will be removed in a week or so. Enjoy it while you can.

It's also interesting that despite the Directory's massive database of tutorials, plans and community web sites etc, not one single person on these forums has suggested that people go there to find what they need. I do find that peculiar. I look forward to the day when it's considered a reliable recourse.

Hi JK,

I am surprise that people have not took a look at the information on your site, especially on the tutorials. It's kind of funny because I see threads people asking to learn gmax, etc and all they would need to do is have your site bookmark for references.

Still, it's great place to stop, and stay a while....:D

Thank for all of your hard work... I'm sure it was time consuming setting it all together! :p

It may not be what you are looking for but there is an aircraft carrier on the DLS. I think it was made by Alien and is listed on the DLS as carrier.

I for one would like to see more freighters ie. Liberty ships etc.

Cheers.

I think Mike Davis ("whecsailor") also made some vessels, amongst his several creations.
perhaps he was suggested earlier, in which case please forgive me. I only 'stepped in here' for a moment, so haven't delved into the denizens of past pages.
