There was a derailment on the BNSF Thayer South Sub near Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. This is the second derailment on the Thayer South Sub since 2000. The train was a 118-car general merchandise train headed for Kansas City from Birmingham. The derailment occured around noon on Monday, May 5th. My school's Jr.BETA club was on a trip up that way and they happened to be in Mammoth Spring when the derailment occured. BNSF personell, Mammoth Spring State Park rangers, and local police organized an evacuation of Mammoth Spring and Thayer because alot of the cars that derailed had liquid butane in them(only 14 cars derailed). My school's Jr.BETA group evacuated to the south to a town called Hardy. What's kind of a stinker is that Mammoth Spring State Park is my favorite railfanning spot around my house. Now all the park rangers are going to be strict on railfans most likely. Hopefully I am wrong because if I am not, I'll have to go all the way to Willow Springs, Missouri to railfan. So this crash might not be good for railfans around me who like the spot in Mammoth Spring.

Thank god no one was. If that tank car full of propane would of went off, It would have made national news. But thank god it happened how it did.
