Bizar behavior

I pulled up a route I've been working on for a while and took it for a spin after a few tweaks to some scenary. I get a message "no path to selected destination" when supposed to couple with a car for a bunch of the trains/drivers that I've been using in the past. Didn't change any track/driver commands/vehicles/anything! Other routes seem to work fine.......tried re-entering the commands.....same result. Tried new rolling stock.....same result. Anyone have similar problems/resolution???

Don't know what to do!

Greetings kctrain,

Two posts of similar type issues come to mind, only found the one post which may or may not be your issue. I doubt it is but thought it might give you an idea. It sounds as if your route might be suffereing from 'track breakage' of some sort for the message you have coming up.

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=36466

The other post mentioned that "saving a session with AI trains moving caused wierd problems" or something simliar.

if you put
-debug
in your trainzoptions.txt you can drive yourself at increased speeeds while holding the shift key and check the route.

Hope these thoughts help you,

Regards,
Lenny

Thanks for the reply! In response to the "saving while AI is running"......not applicable to my situation (good thought though!). I was avoiding messing with the track, since it involves a rather LARGE yard! Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and try some track tricks!

Need to do domestic stuff today.......working on getting some quality time to try a few track fixes.

Will keep informed of any revelations.

Try running the train over all the track connections it would have to go over to get to where it should go, if it derails, there's a track breakage there.
Add a spline point to one of the tracks just before the breakage, then delete the short piece of track between the new spline point and the broken connection, and then connect from the new spline point to the other track.

Hi!
there is one other way this can happen, and that is a stray set of points along the given route, this can happen if you have tryed to move somthing else such as a set of signals, or buffers for instance, beause when in surveyer mode Trainz always pics up the points first if they are slietly in front of the object that you wish to move, and it's very ezay to dislodge a set of points by accsedent without you even knowing.

I hope this helps.

A good way to check for track breakages is to couple an Invisicab to a loco and drive it along the route in cab view mode. You can get really close up to the tracks to see any bad spline points etc.

Thanks to all

Gave up on trying to fix the problem:confused: . Reverted back to an archived version and all is well. Only lost a week or so of additions.......maybe they will be better the second time around:D .

I ended up doing that at one point myself because of the same problem. That was when I first started using Trainz. Since then I've learned to find the broken track. The process is pretty simple.

1) Follow your track closely in Surveyor and look for any white, not yellow, spline points. As you check the spline points carefully, inspect for a small break between the tracks. This happens sometimes when dragging and laying the tracks particularly if you are using the shift key to keep two parallel splines from connecting together inadvertently.

2) Check road crossings, industries, stations, and other fixed-track items. Sometimes I've forgotten to connect the track to the road crossings! This was quite frustrating until I followed the line carefully. The track was close, but not connected, and the repair took less than 2-seconds to fix. Do the same for interactive industries such as stations and factories because the same thing can happen.

3) Check that your direction markers are pointing in the right direction. The yellow markers should point in the direction you want the train to go. If they're facing the wrong way, the AI driver may or may not overide the marker and will produce this message. These can be the most difficult to find because everything looks okay as far as the track goes.

So having said this, and I know it's too late, keep these tips in mind for future path problems.

Had a similar problem a while back & found a scenery item ( spline ) had attached to track.Tried everything deleting & relaying track & scenery splines but couldn't clear the error. Had to go back to a previous saved version & start again.
