Hey everyone
Now, i dont want to be yelled at, i am only checking.
bird_d00 produces London Underground Content for TMR's website.
I have recently finished producing a London underground Route of my own using some the content from said author
His license says 'This asset is copyright and may not be distributed by any method for which a charge is made, or as a part of such an item for which a charge is made. It is licensed for use in Trainz versions up to and including TRS2006 only. Use of this item is at users own risk.'
Does this mean it can or cant be used in the route i am creating (no changes have been made to the asset by the way)

Thanks, Simon

If the content is on the DLS you can use it, if it is on his website you can use it but it could disappear at any time making your rout unusable to new downloads.

Which web site are they on?

Thanks John

I'm an not a barrister, and don't mean to play one on the internet, but the part of the license which reads (in relevant part):

... <snippage> ... This asset is copyright and may not be distributed by any method for which a charge is made, or as a part of such an item for which a charge is made. It is licensed for use in Trainz versions up to and including TRS2006 only. Use of this item is at users own risk.' ... <more snippage> ...

seems to suggest that use in a route that is created in a version published after 2006 would be non-compliant with the license.

Simply using an asset in a route does not require any approval from the original creator. Approval is only required if the asset itself is distributed. As the route only contains the reference to the asset - its KUID - no issue of copyright or proper usage applies.

Are you still pursuing this Simon? I ask because I too am working on a route that involves using a number of those LT assets from TrainzProRoutes. I'm in the middle of producing the Aylesbury to London Marylebone route which will involve the London Underground's Metropolitan Line and Jubilee Line as far as Baker Street (they certainly have to be included as far as Finchley Road at least.) Can you let me know if you make any headway with any further enquiries, or indeed whether or not you are intent on pursuing things further? This could have serious implications for me as I was hoping to release my route at some point later this year (all things being well.)

Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave
Fantastic! Yes, i am. For a bit more info, i am creating the never built Fleet Line. It wasgoing to run between Thamesmead in the East to West Hampstead in the West with a branch tot he south serving New Cross. In actual fact, it eventually became part of the Jubilee Line. At the moment i am at about 65% complete. I have a tendency to build something and then another so some parts are more complete than others :)
Best Regards, Simon

The issue is bird_doo (what a name!) did not have a supported version of Trainz, so couldn't upload anything to the DLS. Situation may have changed now especially as they are allowing unsupported uploads subject to the CRG looking at them although haven't seen him on British Trainz lately. The three NG models made for TS2006 of his all 2.4's, I have would hold up pretty well in TS12 and TANE.

To be fair Malc, most of bird_doo's assets work very well in T:ANE and are good quality items. I've had some minor difficulties with textures on his deep level tunnel portals but, although I've not really used any of them yet, that is an easy enough problem to fix. His LU Cable Gantries (seen below - more clearly in the right hand pic.) are indispensible though, along with a few other items. I have had to use these gantries many, many times because they are a major feature of London Underground routes and there is nothing remotely comparable on the DLS. It wold be so handy if we could somehow get permission to put all of these items on the DLS. I agree though Malc, it is quite a name he gave himself isn't it?

Simon, I'm pretty much like you when building a route. I've laid the track throughout (except for the bit to Uxbridge where it branches off at Harrow on the Hill and also the line off to Stanmore) and I've been busy filling in the detail ever since. However, when I get bored of an area I move to somewhere else for a change. It helps to keep the concentration levels up I find and keeps the interest going too. I'm probably a little behind you at around the 55% mark right now but things are going quite well at the moment and I'm moving forward at a decent pace.

Wow! Impressive! Trans DEM as well by the looks of it. :) The name reminds me of Pigeons! :hehe: I just with that all Trainz were intercompatible. Great routes such as the original ECML, The whole length of the Wet Highland line, Plymouth to Exeter Line and (more importantly for me) the bottom half of the Brighton Main Line, all lost due to their age and unability to be updated :(

Don't discount the age of something in Trainz. I have taken two routes dating back to December 2003 and January 2005, respectively, and have brought them into T:ANE. They weren't pretty, and I'm not meaning the textures or things like that, but with a little fixing up and cleaning up they don't look half bad.

Hi Jcitron
Oh no, i know how to do it, there are just several reasons why i cant. Firstly i dont have Trainz 2009 to bridge the gap between the two (TRS06 and TRS2010) as when iattempted to do it directly TRS2006 wouldnt install properly (something about stacking?) After doing some research i found out that sometimes going into explorer and changing file type names can fix the issue. When i attempted this it worked (sort of) It no longer crashed to the desktop but instead just comes up as oblivion. Is there another way of doing this then? Thanks. Simon
