BIOS Update Tale

So anyway I was running the 'AI Suite II' software which came with my motherboard.

I figured "hey, lets see if there is an updated BIOS".

There was so I did the BIOS flash from Windows. I was thinking "wow, gotta love the new motherboard hi tech stuff".

Rebooted.

GRUB 1.5 error.

Oh oh, that's not good. Now my computer won't boot.

I don't have the best memory in the world or I would have remembered GRUB errors are caused by the boot drive not having a bootable OS.

So anyhow, I go into BIOS and really can't find anything wrong, then I remembered from my last BIOS update the computer had lost it's RAID setting.

So I make that change.

Many reboots later and still no Windows...

I'm playing with all kinds of settings which really don't matter.

At this point I'm starting to lose it, and mix myself an adult beverage and kinda step back and think about the whole thing.

And then finally the light bulb came on...

My boot priority was:

1, Optical drive.
2, Hard drive.

Problem was the second option was referencing an 80 gig HD (no OS) which I had recently installed to retrieve some stuff off of.

The second option needed to be Intel Volume (0) which is the RAID drive and is bootable.

And then I remembered 'these are the exact same mistakes I made the last time I updated the BIOS'.

It's not that I'm stupid, I just have a really terrible memory for actions I don't repeat often.

So now my overclocking settings are trashed and I have to go back and redo them.

The entire event was a little over an hour.

I wonder if history will repeat itself 6 months from now.:'(
