BIG ALCO'S?

bunkerrattmk2

CNW the left hand road.
iv'e looked ..and searched....are there any alco c-636 or c-628's to be had? payware or freeware? ...i'd love some in cnw colors and road numbers in the 6700's:'(

ok..thanks for the reply....sadly the stock unit in ts 2010 needs a reskin.I spent many summers along the cnw in milwaukee as a kid ...they were rare sight .but you knew they were comming before you saw them..they ROARED/ GRUMBLED / and belched out of dense cloud of black smoke ...followed but what seemed to be a 200 car ore drag of taconite pellets. they were high nosed and filthy i still have a soft spot for them.:'(

The stock unit is the Robe unless someone made another and there is no way to make it look like the American ones without removing the extra parts not seen on the US Alcos.
Not stopping you, just saying you would have to live with the extra stuff.
I think it is covered by JoshEH's recent statement.

it's all good ...no i'm not going to even to reassemble the robe alco.....maybe some time in the future the guys @jointed rail or rr mods will release some big alcos or some big u-boats...for now i'm trainzing along ....;)

There might :o be some big Alcos being worked on............. some weird words being used like C628s, C630s, C636s, M636, C430s.......

Then again, maybe not.

I've wondered about this myself. Ronin13's C636s are alright, but something about them doesn't seem right. the Robe engine looks all wrong for a US loco, and so on. What bothers me the most, though, is the lack of proper RSDs and my favorite ALCo, the C420. They fit the operating scheme of my "All ALCo" Williams Bay and North Western better than the huge C-series engines with their long wheelbases. Simulatortrain was working on one (C420) a while back, but there's been no word on it for a while. There's some old ones on the DLS, but they look bad, to put it lightly.

We do have some psuedo RSDs, though, but they are just RS-3s and -11s with three axle trucks crammed under them to make them RSD-4/5s and RSD-12s, respectively. The demensions are all wrong for a proper engine (The noses on those things were insanely long) but they work for the time being. If you tickle your fancy, but "cincysouthernrwy" in the first search box with "Author" ticked, along with "RSD-12," "RSD-4" or "RSD-5" in the search box. make sure that the "AND" is selected and not "OR" because for some reason it won't work that way.

Ronin13s C636 is too tall and too narrow. If he still has the mesh, that can be fixed, but I think he left the community.

What is a huge C-series, six axles or does it include the 4 axles after the C420? There is a C424/425 model and a recent RS1.
And if you dig deep into history, you could even get creative.

in the century series, the 3-digit number is a code. taking C420 as a guide, that means "Century Series, 4-axle, 2000 horsepower." so a C-630 means "Century series, 6-axle, 3000 horsepower." there was a C420, 424, 425, 430, 628, 630, and 636. there was also a C415, which was a slightly off-center-cab switcer. I've never seen many pictures of them, as far as i know only Southern Pacific and Rock Island owned them (though don't quote me on that, maybe someone can fill in the gaps).

anyway, a "huge C-series" means any Century with a 6 at the start of its number designation. sorry, just realized i didn't really answer the question. search C-630 or C-636 on Google Images or RRpicturearchives. they're monsters, but beautiful monsters.

Hopefully I'm not telling you anything you don't already know?

I do know it, I just wondered if you had a cap at C420 for your railroad.
There were other Centurys, just no one ever bought them. C410, C428, C620, C860 and one that was never given a designation but probably would have been some wierd combination of a lower rated C855 on 6 axles.
I do not know if you can get a response from Magicland for release (if you want to), but he has C424s/425s on DLS and whitepass has the RS1.

There's some C-424/425s on the railroad, but I'm too lazy to reskin (at least, I haven't quite figured out GIMP yet) so for now, the idea is that the line has all its ALCos in "heritage" schemes of lines that used to run ALCos. My thing is that the line's curves are a bit to sharp for long-bodied Centuries. I could rework it, but it would take a fair bit of time.

On a related note, a low nose SP&S C636 would be awesome:D
