Beta vs Demo --Read Me if you didn't get an serial Number after buying 09

I've noticed a lot of confusion over this so I thought I'd try and clear things up.

I've been reading alot of post saying "I bought the 09 and didn't get my serial number. I wanted to try it out first. A couple things to mention:
a) if you just wanted to try it out why would you buy it? what if then you didn't like it, you just wasted $30.
b) The "Beta" which a number of you thought you bought is not a Demo; but a release candidate for you to try and break; Once it is broken (you get an error, etc) you are supposed to report it to the Beta Testers Corner where then Auran will look into it and possibly (depending on what it is) fix before releasing. Beta are controled; generally only a select number copies are released; rarely are they open for the public.

Now a personal note to Auran.

I like your new Idea of being more community focus with the development of 09. But I still think having the beta be available to people who pre-order causes alot of confusion. may I suggest going back to the pre-09 style betas; with a more closed beta.

Most of your post is correct. The only point you have missed is that Auran uses the Beta as a advertisement to sell the game by pre-order which is a binding contract. This means that the people who indeed pre-ordered should be handed a beta even after the release of the game. By not handing out the needed serial numbers Auran is in breach with their contract.

by pre-ordering Trainz 2009 you also you also get an invitation to the Beta Testing Program

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it was stated that that beta testing was finished, so how can it be a breach of contract??

I beg to differ!

I don't know about breach of contract, but here is an excerpt from the TRS2009 website for people who want to preorder TRS2009:

"Pre-Order Trainz Simulator 2009: World Builder Edition and you automatically receive an invitation to the Trainz 2009 Beta Testing Program. You'll receive access to download the full 2.6GB Beta version of Trainz which will have a 30 day expiry date. If you'd like to get a sneak peak at the new 2009 features, and help us ensure this is the best ever version of Trainz, then make sure you pre-order now. Read More Here"

I firmly believe that this statement above most assuredly misleads people into thinking that by preordering they will receive the beta edition with a serial number if they receive the invitation. If you will also notice, it doesn't mention you MUST beta-test the copy, but instead can use it to get a "sneak peek" at the 2009 features. By not supplying a serial number in the email when you receive the invitation, to me, this constitutes false advertising by making me believe that by preordering, I will receive a Beta copy that I can access; of course this is not the case at all. :n:

Just my 2 cents worth. Guess I'll just have to wait for the full version.

The beta is in fact still available for pre-order customers (even though you will be downloading a version that will expire in a few days time).

The serial number mail merge program ran out of serial numbers and our web guy is away this weekend. Helpdesk are manually issuing Beta keys to those that have pre-ordered.

Sorry for the confusion and inconvenience.

Thank you, Tony....I look forward to seeing a key in my email:clap:

ermm if the game is released you are no longer pre-ordering it.

Me. I got it completly wrong anyway. I thought you had to Pre Order to qualify. not Pre Purchase. So I have only pre ordered. "oops."

I also preordered today and got an email with an "empty" key.
Will the helpdesk send the "manually issued key" automatically
or do I have to report this to someone?

Thanx
Mike
