Best way to begin?

I just discovered the world of virtual railroading, and the Trainz family of sims. What is the best way to get started? Should I jump right in to the latest version, or is there some good reason to try one of the older versions first? ---- thanks ---- Jim

For a new guy, I would say just get 2009, the latest version. I use 2006 mostly, but also have 2009, 2004, UTC, TC1&2, TC3 and CE.

It depends on your interest and computer. If it's UK steam then TC3, plus TRS2006, if you have a dual or quad core machine TRS2009 runs very well. In compatibility mode most things work. If its a single core machine TRS2009 won't have quite such a performance increase over TRS2006.

Basically TRS2006 can run TRS2006 and TRS2004 items, TRS2009 can run TRS2004, TRS2006, TRS2007, TC3 and TRS2009 items.

Understand that because Trainz is open ended ie some one who builds a loco is not limited by polys only by what runs on his machine so you may have to upgrade your computer to run some of this stuff.
