Best system for TRS22

Good points. I am spoiled with my Alienware laptop. Both the RAM and HD can be upgraded. There's even a slot for a 2nd M.2 drive if I want to do that. I maxed out my RAM when I bought it to 64GB.

That's another thing with laptops and prebuilt machines. If you order a machine with replaceable memory, the manufacturer will always put in the lowest amount of RAM to make up what you want. If you have 4 slots and order 16 GB of RAM, they'll put in 4GB sticks. These are then wasted, unless you can sell them, when you upgrade. I learned this a long time ago.

Another thing with laptops is the batteries are now soldered in on some of the cheap models. This and the soldered in HD makes the machines e-waste even though they're still viable machines because the HD and battery can't be upgraded or replaced.
Copy That John,

You have to wonder about these Nimrods, as if we don't make enough trash in the world.

I had had forgot about them doing the smallest pieces of RAM MEM.

Wonders never cease to underwhelm us....

Take care John. ;)(y)

One is running TANE, TRS 2019, TRS 2022 on a gaming PC with an INN03D Geforce RTX 3050 graphics card and enhanced turbo software that is shipped with the product with no problems.
It is important to have some softare installed to monitor heat levels, control the GPU and CPU speeds with respect to temperature changes.
There are now some good gaming laptops available on the market, however one recomends a gaming PC with at least four fans fitted for cooling.

You know guys, it's been since May of 2023 that the op asked his question. I think we can safely say this thread is dead, LOL. :sneaky:

But on jan 10 a user posted about a problem on his new gaming system.

I seem to recall N3V did a survey of hardware once and the average trainz user had a 3060 or lower GPU. I don't think that has changed much. Yes there are some who run liquid nitrogen cooled high end machines but the bread and butter ie most of N3V's income comes from software sales to lower end machines.

A number of users have moved over from the physical model railway side where the costs of new models has gone through the roof and they are looking for a cheaper alternative.

The majority of users are not computer experts, if they see the words gaming machine they assume it will run games including trainz. Is it realistic to say buy the most expensive machine you can afford? For many this will be overkill. Yes Middleton for laptops will run on a RTX 4070 machine but it doesn't really need it and you're just heating the room with the excess computing power.

We probably need a sticky giving guidance on buying hardware and what to expect from a given level of hardware.

Cheerio John

Whether "specing" out or building your own box, get a MB where you can set PCIe Bifurcation in Bios. Many gaming boards allow this. Check before buying.

And the major advantage would be? Given for the average user going into the bios can cause problems? I would have thought that for many this would be set correctly by the manufacturer of the system.

I use something similar to this, although I'd recommend you to use an AMD equivalent as now Intel CPUs are a money pit.

Absolutely agree Sir,

Laptops purely by design, compact, and they're always trying to make them sleeker, thinner, trendy whatever you want to call it... Increases the heat factor exponentially. 🙁

I use Samsung Magician for heat monitoring and overall health of my Samsung SSD's I have lost SSD's in the past due to Heat issues. :geek:

In addition I also you use a FAN Chiller Pad, that has 4 Fans in it, and when I am working on larger Routes or doing a lot Tera forming Tiles, I turn it on, really helping to get cooler temps on my HP Victus Gaming Laptop. ;)

I never run a game on any of my computers on a very hot day if the temperature is over 32 degrees Celsius.
(Reason: no house air-conditioning only cooling fans).
The GPU's would get very hot indeed.
Also I still have a copy of Trainz Simulator 12 installed and running on an old Windows 7 computer and it works well.
This game version was made for Windows 7.
