Best kind of hardware to run TRS 2010/2012 at good speed & no lag?

After using TRS 2010 for a good bit and being quite pleased with the graphics and level of realism, I'm considering looking at buying a new PC so this one can be rid of the effort of running it. It still runs fairly decently, but for some of the newer routes that are a bit more graphics-heavy than others, (except good ol' Clovis Sub, excellent framrates) such as the Trainz Italia payware Donner Pass route, I'm pretty sure I'd need a better PC. Anyone have some advice for the best PC for lowest price?

TS12 Recommended specs, as laid down by N3V:
Win7x64 with 2 GB of RAM
Core 2 Duo or equivalent processor
nVidia GeForce 8000 or equivalent
16 GB free space
DirectX 9.0c
DirectX 9.0c or better compatible sound card
Mouse and keyboard

It would help to know what you have now. I use an old Core 2 Duo with a GeForce 460 and only 2 Gb of Ram at the moment, and it works fairly well. Dave Snow laid out for a Falcon Northwest system, and he says he still gets stutters!

Dang memory seems to get locked every now and then. What I have is a Dell Optiplex GX520, Intel Pentium D processor, DirectX's latest version, speakers, sound card, etc. Hope that helps. Best route I ever ran was Clovis sub, near-perfect framerates.

I'm running an i5 with 4GB of ram and an ATi 6850 video card with a fast 7200 spin WD HD and I still get stutters on my route :(. Time to teach extra classes so I can buy a V8 Cooler Master CPU cooler so I can overclock the CPU and a SSD for Trainz 12 only!

Probably the best - and most economical - is a build-it-yourself Intel i5-2500k- or i5-3570k-based system with an nVidia 550Ti video card and 4Gb or more of memory. There are barebone kits at Tigerdirect that are based on this, which is what I used. You can go more expensive and get an i7, though I think you start seeing diminishing returns. All told, my current system came out to a little over $600, though I already had a copy of Windows XP-64 bit.

FYI, AMD isn't bad either, and you can usually get a kit for less than Intel, but get the fastest processor you can get.
