Best Frame Rates in Trainz???

What are some things that can be done to optimize frame rates for Trainz12? I have a fairly substandard system for gaming, but right now, it seems to be running o.k. I just want to squeeze everything out of this computer that I can. I have only and NVidia GE Force 8500 with newest drivers. I also changed the windows Vista graphics to bare bones for the purpose of better performance. What else can I do to get just a few more fps in Trainz?

If you have smooth visuals in the routes and sessions you are interested in, any framerate of >15FPS at which the eye does not see individual frames is OK. So the effort involved to improve further may not be worth it.

That's something I have noticed with TS12 I will be watching and then I will notice it has dipped to 15-20 fps but unless I looked at the lcd on the keyboard I wouldn't have noticed...

You can tell it in 2010 when you drop from 50 to 20 for example but it is not as noticeable in TS12...

A suggestion

Are you running FRAPs?

If you do, you can see what areas of your route are problematic. For example, by experimenting I determined that the heavy use of orchard splines along the railway really reduces FPS. Also, as has been stated in other threads, water also reduces FPS, but generally where you are looking over water you typically don't have much else going on, so not a big problem IMO.

Since everyone's routes they are building and their hardware is different, it is hard to give advice to apply to everyone, but you might want to give FRAPS a try if you have not done so already.

In the most urbanized section of my route I am usually around 15 or 20 FPS and the previous post by mrscsi gives me a sense that I'm still OK but wouldn't want to go below that.
