Bendorsey's bridges question

Hee-hee, sorry, couldn't resist! :hehe:

Got a specific bridge in mind? Ben makes a lot of bridges, many are rolling lift, vertical lift, double deck drawbridge, center swing, all the moving stuff that have to be fixed sizes. I do see SOME that are defined as splines rather than fixed size, but it looks to me like most are fixed size.

most are fixed length. there might be a few that are splines. Why not just look to see on the DLS? CMP will tell you if it's a spline or a scenery object.

Actually it don't, I saw "spline" in the descriptions for some of them, but a search filter for "bridge" and Author bendorsey turns up 912 bridges, all classified as either buildings or miscellaneous.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Did a search for Category Spline, and they do indeed list as Type Misc, Scenery, Flora, or Road. And here I was assuming category and type were the same thing, what tag in the asset tells the category-spline filter to dig it up?

I'm yet to try one of Ben's bridges that isn't a scenery item though I could be proved wrong.

Almost all of my bridges are fixed tho I often make several variations in length and span arrangement to give folks a bit of a choice. I have made a few splines but the emphasis is on the word few. My moving bridges are made as mocrossings to take advantage of code built into Trainz to operate them without the necessity of a script file. Almost all are made normally open and trigger to close at the approach of a train at about 80 meters however I have made a few that are normally closed and open at the approach of a boat setup like a loco running on invisible track in the water. The 7-mile bridge in the Florida Keys consists of splines and fixed parts and must be assembled in surveyor (all 7 miles of it, lol). Instructions are included. Finally I've made a few trestle kits in different gauges whicl allow an large number of different height, length trestles with several different bridges included.

misc would be the splines. as with any other splines in CMP.

Actually splines can also be under the road category. I've seen several items on the DLS as roads that are not roads. There is some room for improvement for the classification and organization of splines through CM.

Be sure to check out his "The Steel Bridge" 1,2,3,4 on the DLS

which comes in 4 versions. The Steel Bridge, in Portland, OR, USA, crossing the Willamette River is probably the most multimodal bridge in the world, and is a century old masterpiece of bridge awesomeness, a two level lift bridge where each level can lower or lift independently of the other (the only one in the world), carrying heavy rail (freight and Amtrak), light rail transit, road vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians.
