Ballast Question

I'm a big admirer of the worn out track on the Fillmore County route by the switchback, and it appears they use a combination of TSM Ballast SK6 plus the track to get the correct "look", but I'm struggling to get the ballast (TSM Ballast SK6)'s height to be just below the height of the ties of the track, if that makes sense?

On my attempts, the ballast is completely covered by the track, but on their route, it's much more visible?

I must need to set my ballast height somehow?

Thanks....

Don't smooth the terrain under your track. You will have to place the track, lock the track height and then smooth the terrain manually underneath to prevent the terrain from covering all of the ballast on the track up to the edge of the ties.

The alternative is to use some of the high ballast track. Jointed Rail has some if I recall as well as other authors.
