Automatic Turntable?

I'm looking for a way of turning a steam loco and tender, which are running under AI, around at its terminus.
The problem with the runaround rule is that although the loco moves to the opposite end of the consist, it would still be facing the wrong way.

A turntable would be the obvious solution, but I want the whole thing done via AI, and I don't think this is possible.

I would like to know how others deal with this problem.

Any suggestions please,

Ian

Hi Ian,

It is possible in TRS2006 but not in TRS2004 as far as I know. There are two ways of doing it in TRS2006, either with andi06's scripted turntable or with the input command and the move turntable command and an unscripted turntable. If you are using TRS2006 send me a PM and I will send you all the details for the unscripted version.
It's bed time here so I don't have time tonight.

Cheers,

Hello Ian

Any suggestions please,

Yes, but only for TRS2006

There are a Driver Command called MoveTurntable by atilabarut (kuid2:131986:180156:1 in DLS) with that description

Description:
Moves turntable to a specified stop position. As a prerequisite, you need to download and install 'InputTable' rule (kuid:131986:1012) from DLS. Then, edit this rule and enter the following on a new line:

turntable, turntable_name, number_of_stops

where turntable_name denotes the name of the turntable object in Surveyor and number_of_stops is thel number of stop positions (minimum 2) in the turntable.

Ex: turntable,Turntable 1, 10 (name of the turntable is 'Turntable 1' and the number of stop points around the turntable is 10)

Once this statement is entered in the 'InputTable' rule, you will notice that the name and the stop numbers (listed as 0,1,2,...) is seen in the menu of MoveTurntable command in the driver setup rule. This menu also includes 'next' and 'prev' options to move the turntable incrementally, if desired. Choose a turntable and one of its available stops that you wish turntable to move and assign this operation to one of the drivers using the turntable. Note that the turntable stop numbers are ordered in the clockwise direction and it starts with 0 as being the the default turntable stop.

You nee donwload the InputTable rule kuid:131986:1012

Work fine

Manuel

Ian,

would you like a demo-map? If so, please contact me (e-mail).

Edit: works only with TRS2006 (V2.5 and higher).

You could create a Wye intersection before or after the run-around point to turn the locomotive in the opposite direction.

Hi,
A convenient, but most un-prototypical way to turn a loco and tender in AI is to use Andi06's tram reverser, perhaps hidden in a loco shed or such.
Just put a trackmark at the end of the tram reverser, drive to trackmark, wait for 10secs, and your loco is pointing the right way. :)

I also have this turntable at the end of my mainline. Is it possible to put a DRIVE VIA <turntable trackmark>, make it turn the turntable somehow or another (it's only got two tracks), then use the run around train command to get it back to the train. I would like to avoid the couple to command as I have alot of trains on my line.

Hello,

I've tried the "MoveTuntable" rule several times. I am pretty sure that I have set it up correctly, but I always get this error:

Thread Exception ER NullReference, line 32, file

Stack Dump:

function $bool@MoveTurntableCustomCommand::Execute(Train,int,int,int)
line -1
function $void@Train::RunSchedule(Schedule,bool,float), line 1739

Re Turntable

Thank you for your replies. I am actually using TRS2004. I do have TRS2006, but despite the 1st class ticket (now expired!), I have found it totally impossible to download anything, so I have removed it from my computer.
My feeling now is to go for the 'Y' junction as a qick and dirty solution.

Might be the only way in TRS2004. I've tried the turntable tricks and they just don't work. Set up the Wye with trackmarks at the junctions and have your loco Drive Via [Trackmark #] for full automation.

Hello

I have the input table rule, and I can get the Moveturntable rule to work partially, but when the AI arrives at a turntable in driver, that error shows up. I guess I wasn't very clear.:o

Thanks

I tried the Moveturntable rule and found that locos do not stop at the trackmark with any consistency. Even same loco after a save. Pity as, at first, I thought this to be the answer to my problem.

Would like to give the Tram Reverser a go but cannot find it listed under andi06 in CMP. Anyone know the kuid please?

I see two of them:

Hi Ian,
The "Y" is not too dirty a solution, it is used in proto railroads quite a lot. Besides if you need a reason to go round the wye place a water tank on the wye tail. Steam locos always have the tender refilled with coal at a coalmine but will sometimes need water too. Another tip if your wye tail is short place an invisible signal just in front of the buffer, this will mean the AI driver sees a yellow instead of a red when approaching the buffer.

Cheers,

I have set up the 'Y' and it works perfectly without the invisible signals.
Incidentally, I did try to download the invisible signals, but was unsuccessful. I did, however, download an engine shed and have placed it so that the loco goes into the loco shed and out of the back which is up against a short tunnel in the raised landscape behind. the tunnel is actually the main leg of the 'Y'. I've still got some tidying up to do, but it's othewise OK.

Bill69, I'm over 70 but not in a club!

Thanks for everyone's help
Ian

Hi Ian & CasyJ,

Ian, glad you got it working ok, best of luck.
CasyJ, you still quallify, just.
The over 70s club I am in is actually nothing to do with Trainz. It's a ski club here in NZ. We have about 19 members and ski regularly during the winter season here. The oldest member will be 85 this year but says he might not be able to ski next winter. Ofcourse we all rubbish this and tell him he can if he want's to.

Cheers,
Bill69

Skiing is something I never attempted. The most active sport I was ever involved in was Bowling and beer drinking.
