Auran website messed up with compatibility settings in IE 11.

There's an annoyance, or problem here actually. We need compatibility view settings in order for the forums to work properly. Without them we can't type quickly, miss characters, have the cursor do weird things, etc. However, when enabled the main website, www.auran.com is messed up.

I know some will say switch to another browser, as this probably works fine in Chrome, Opera, Firefox, but this should be fixed rather than band-aided around.

I switched to Firefox, and use the Apps: No Squint, and Color that Site ... so my blinding white background is a light gray, with bold pure black type ... I rarely use IE anymore.

Even my CM is a custom created gray background  Easier on the ol' eyeballs

Afraid that Microshaft expect the rest of the world to fit with IE not IE with the rest of the world.

Just a thought, I don't have IE leastwise not one that's used or up to date but does it's compatibility setting have a reset or default setting anywhere?

Here is a consumer test.

1. Planet Auran web site banner area rendered in Firefox (v32.0.3 - but I note that an update is downloading as I type this)

2. The same rendered in IE 11 with compatibility mode OFF

3. The same rendered in IE 11 with compatibility mode ON

As we were advised, this is a work in progress.

A common sentiment, but if the truth be told then all the players in the web browser market are guilty of the same. Part of the problem is that the "standard" has been/is very flexible, and at times even vague in places. Microsoft, Mozilla, Netscape, Google, Apple, etc all have a history of developing their own "propriety" standards.

Some interesting comparisons are made at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_web_browsers where it is shown that none of the popular browsers (Firefox, Chrome and IE) meet all the "standards".

Browsers have become the bane of IT support, believe me. With different browsers, security levels, pop-up blocker management, not to mention Java and its own security settings, it's quite a mess these days. I'm showing my age, but I'm old enough to remember the wags who claimed "web-based systems will be so easy to support -- all you'll need is a browser!" Ha! That said, my up-to-date IE 11 on Windows 7-64 seems to handle Planet Auran okay, but I must resort to Chrome in order to get work done at other web sites, even after attempts to dicker with IE's configuration.

Hi everyone, I will see what I can sort out with this, looks like ill have to write some specific CSS just for IE.

Cheers,

Similar problem happened the other day on these forums. In IE7 (don't quote me, had my laptop redone) the forums were completely messed up. After installing IE9 since Chrome wouldn't do the trick, the Forums loaded normal, but upon using Compatibility Mode on the page, it rendered the same it did in IE7!

I have just loaded up auran.com into IE11 and I am not having any problems at all. can anyone having a n issue please post the actual version number of IE 11 that they have (click on the cog on top right and select "about interne explorer")

I am using 11.0.9600.17358

I am also noticing the issues you mention with the forums (took me forever to write this while having to correct words constantly). I will be looking into upgrading the forum software as well.

the best solution is to remove the need for compatibility mode.

Here is how it looks with my IE11 in compatibility mode, same version as you have. Colours are right, but the MyTrainz logo is in the wrong position.

Hi Spiffy,

I have 11.9600.17351.

I have the same issue as Deane and thus my initial post.

The Auran.com home page is fine without compatibility mode, however, the forums don't work properly so it's necessary to use compatibility mode for the forums.

Hey All

I may have fixed the problem with the forum, can those people who have been using compatibility mode please turn it off and see if it is ok now?

Cheers,
Spiffy

Spiffy. Just tested the Forums in IE9, the compatibility mode option is now gone. Does this mean that the issue is resolved?

Hopefully, the main test will be using it. The most noticeable thing I saw was the delay in typing when trying to do a quick reply, it would often miss letters completely.
