Auran free loco

Looking at some older items I came across Auran free crocodile loco. Now If you want to even purchase items you need trainz+

Not all DLC is locked behind the subscription paywall, but I get your point.
And I agree.
Imagine paying £25 for a loco, and the moment you stop subscribing that loco and the £25 disappear...unless you start subscribing again.
Shameful.

But, like most things in life, it's those that comply with these sorts of shenanigans that spoil it for the rest of us.

Is that true? I understood that if you purchase something under Plus or Gold, it is yours even if you unsubscribe. If it is as you say, then yes, that is a definite ripoff.

It isn't true. Anything you buy from the Store is yours whether you maintain a subscription or not. Anything made by Auran is archaic and not worth having.

Euromodeller made a very nice model of that loco that is on the DLS.

Right, well this needs clarifying.
This has been discussed recently, and no-one jumped in and said otherwise.

There are things on the Trainz Store that you can buy without subscription.
Normal DLC situation.

There are things on the Trainz Store that state that you must have a subscription.
Their actual phrasing is: "This item is only available if you own a Trainz Plus Standard or Trainz Plus Gold membership."
I've put the word 'available' in bold because that's the key word.
Available to buy, or available to use?
There is a price on the HST and Class 11 pages, for example...
...but no 'add to cart' button because both state the message above.

The question is, which items of DLC are not going to be available to use in TRS22 if you cancel the subscription?
I'm obviously not talking about the full DLC that comes with the subscription, but anything you buy to keep.

Does the message on the 2 links I added above relate to not being able to buy them without a subscription, or not being able to use them if you cancel your subscription?

And here's the thing.
I've talked about this recently in at least two threads, and I've also found a few threads asking the same question.
Tony did appear in one of the threads, but his answer was a bit vague, and certainly didn't answer the question I pose above.
And no-one from N3V jumped in to correct me or others when stating that DLC bought in subscription is locked without subscription if you need a subscription to buy it.

I would have thought that it would have been an important PR exercise to get any misinformation quashed and corrected as soon as possible.
So that either means that N3V really doesn't keep an eye on these forums, or they're quiet because the DLC is indeed locked when you un-sub.

So, spending ~£5 to subscribe for one month, and buying the HST and the Class 11 would allow me to use both of them if I don't continue subscribing?
Is that what you're saying?

Those of you the other side of the paywall may have access to that information somehow, I don't know, but this side of the paywall it's all very vague, and the fact that no-one corrected me or other people when saying that DLC requiring a sub was locked without a sub means that I still believe it to be true.

I would like to be wrong, as it would make it a more reasonable subscription model.
I look forward to answers.

is this why pro tainz isn't working?
i tried to buy assets but it tells me there is a problem.

If an item is for subscribers only, it can not be purchased, it is only available to use while subscription is active. It is listed for a price to satisfy consumer law.
@EJB it has nothing to do with why pro trainz isn't working - contact the helpsesk.

I have a vague recollection that I read that about the prices a few weeks ago on here.

So what you're saying is that anything that has the message "This item is only available if you own a Trainz Plus Standard or Trainz Plus Gold membership." cannot be bought at either tier of subscription?

So, if anyone reading this, who has a subscription, went to the pages I linked to above, they wouldn't see an 'add to cart' button and could not buy them?

Wow, they've really got it in for the UK crowd, putting the 125, the class 11 and the blue diesel pack into this 'you can never own them!' category!

What items are unable to purchase without having a subscription sorry?

Imagine paying £25 for a loco, and the moment you stop subscribing that loco and the £25 disappear...unless you start subscribing again.
Shameful.

Completely falsified information. Totally untrue and borderline libel.

Feel like these fairly constant whinges about subscriptions is getting very tired. Either you pay and you get access to everything like I do, or you shut up. It's pretty simple, I would've thought.

FYI - this is how the webpage displays for a Trainz+ Gold subscriber (me) - and despite not having much interest in UK stuff, they are lovely to drive :)

From the Membership FAQ
  • You can cancel your membership at any time.
  • When you cancel, you continue to have access to everything you are entitled to until your membership period expires.
  • After your membership expires, when you next log in to Trainz the DLC items accessed via your membership will show as “Not Active”.
These “Not Active” items will remain as "placeholders" in any routes or sessions you have created. They can be removed completely by using the "Delete Missing Assets" option.
  • In the case of Trainz access, it will say “Not authorised” when you try to log in.

Hey, calm it down sonny!
If you can't be civil, just do one.
No-one's interested in your posturing.

Posturing? 80% of your entire personality since your return has been "Subscription, wahhh". Shame, the other 20% is very interesting content. There is nothing civil in spreading complete lies to try and suit your mini agenda.

You don't have to read them or reply to them.
You could take your own advice.

There is no spreading of lies, just threads where I ask for confirmation for what I believe to be true from information or other threads I've read, in a civil manner.
I've had good replies and good information to inform me of how it is, from decent members of the forums.

And then there's you, with your comments.

Agenda?....

Oh, and as for my personality...I've always spoken my mind (ask anyone who was with me in the Auran Beta Forum back in 2003-2006  ).
Going back to the early days of Trainz, going back all the way to my childhood.
Doesn't mean I'm rude or disrespectful, or I discount others views, or anything like that.

But I will ask questions, and I will call anyone out on their BS.
I wouldn't want to be any other way.

Until your post, this thread was civil.
What does that tell you?

Oh, and imgur pics don't show in the UK.
Haven't for looong time.

To get a concrete example in this thread (before the moderator locks it:)).

I have Trainz Plus with Gold membership. When I go to the Content Store, with the Store icon in blue, I see the following:-
  • All the items listed that I have not already installed are shown with the Install icon.
  • Not one single item appears with a price tag (in US Dollars).
  • I can download and install any or all of them - they will cost me nothing but, obviously, a cost is included in the Gold membership subscription.
And while we are on the subject of costs:-
  • The Gold membership is an extra $US60 per year (or $US5 per month) on top of the Trainz Plus subscription.
  • The total available DLC value is currently around $US4000 (according to a figure published somewhere by N3V but I was unable to locate or confirm it for this post) but more is added each year.
  • At $US60 per year it would take 66 years for the annual Gold membership fee to reach $US4000 but by then the value would have increased.
If I decide to end my Gold membership (but keep my Trainz Plus subscription) then:-
  • I will lose access to all the DLC that I downloaded and installed when I had the Gold membership.
  • The Content Store will now have a price value on each item where previously there was none and I can purchase those items to use as long as I have a Trainz Plus subscription (or a compatible permanent retail version of Trainz such as TRS19 or TRS22).
  • Any DLC that came with Trainz Plus or that I had purchased before joining Gold I will still be able to use.
  • If I restart my Gold membership at a later date, then all the installed "Gold" DLC will be available again and the Content Store will lose its price tags.
If I decide to end my Trainz Plus subscription completely then:-
  • I will (obviously) lose access to the program and all its installed assets, including DLC.
  • If I also had TRS19 or TRS22 installed then any DLC that I had previously purchased before joining Gold can still be used in those versions (baring any incompatibilities between content for Trainz Plus and TRS19).
  • If I restart my Trainz Plus subscription at a later date, then the program, with all its installed assets, will be available again.
  • If I also restart my Gold membership then see dot point 4 above.

To make this as simple as can be. In the Trainz Store, there are DLC packages you can buy and own forever regardless of your subscription status. There are also DLC packages that no one can buy. Those items are only available to subscribers who can install them into Trainz Plus and they work as long as the subscription is active. N3V has made this policy very clear on numerous occasions. Those items are considered a benefit of being a Trainz Plus subscriber. N3V has also made clear that it is their choice as to whether those items are ever made available for purchase in the Trainz Store. BTW, those items do not require a Gold addon to Trainz Plus. I have installed and used them in Trainz Plus Standard with no problems.
