LOL. Snowpocalypse!

Yep, 34" is the last I heard. Stuff is blown over, roads are terrible...

snow day for me.

Have fun with that guys. Good to know work will be slow since Chicago will hardly be able to spit any trains out.....

Amtrak has said they don't plan to have any service disruptions...

It just started snowing here. We aren't forcasted to get it as bad as other places. Last report I heard said a total of 15-17 inches, ~12 of them tonight.

Oh, well how sad for you. ;)

Predicted totals down to 21" by me... well darn.

I was just out shoveling in the winter wonderland. I felt kind of like I was in some documentary on Antarctica. It's all just powder, but the winds are blowing it everywhere.
BTW, I'm not completely insane, but I'd rather not wait and have to shovel up two feet of solid ice later.

EDIT: Also, everyone else: Be careful as well. I just saw on the news that there was a two-inch thick sheet of ice covering most of Indiana because of the sleet on the south end of the storm.

So really, this should be a warning to most of the Northeastern US.

All day today we had freezing rain. My cars are covered with about a half-inch of clear ice. Roads are dangerous and my county was just declared as a Travel Advisory 2 area. This means: if you don't have any business being out, don't be out.

90 miles southeast of Chicago.
The snow and wind is blowing. Cut some wood for the fireplace, stocked up on munchies. Looking forward to a mid week vacation. I love it, since I retired.

Dave....

Ed,

NOAA forecast for Chicago area:

Tonight: Snow and widespread blowing snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. Steady temperature around 24. Very windy, with a northeast wind between 30 and 35 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 10 to 16 inches possible.

Wednesday: Snow and widespread blowing snow before PM, then areas of blowing snow and a chance of snow after 3pm. Temperature falling to around 19 by 8am. Wind chill values as low as 1. Windy, with a north northwest wind 25 to 30 mph decreasing to between 15 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible

Better warm up your long undies.

Be safe,

Metra is running, the CTA has put their plows on, (unless you're from the UK, then that would be "ploughs"). It's rather unpleasant outside, but my PC is nice and toasty! Thanks for the concern Ron, I'll weather this weather just fine, unless RAF helicopters start falling from the sky!

BTW: To those in the UK; we make bread with something we call "dough", and we pronounce it "doh...(just like Homer). What do you make bread with?

"Blizzards are like honeymoons... 12 inches are promised, but you usually only deliver 4!"

Funny thing, the Chicago blizzard of '67 originally forecast light flurries, then 2-4 inches, and about halfway thru they said we give up, no idea when it's gonna stop.
Blizzard of '79 wasn't as bad because they were READY for it, in '67 they waited until there was 20" on the ground before they started calling in the plow drivers. Here's my Dad in '79;

He was a Chicago garbage truck driver, plowed snow every winter from 1958 to 1988. January 27th, 1967, he got the phone call about 2:00 in the afternoon, we didn't see him again for five days.

Blizzard of '67

I grew up in Chicago and am old enough to remember the blizzard of '67. Two feet of snow as I recall. Once the streets were somewhat cleared the problem became nowhere to park, since anyone who dug out in front of their house set up folding chairs and whatnot so no one else could park in front of their house. What a mess.

Best wishes to everyone in the midwest and northeast. Stay off the roads if you can.

Three ft of snow on the ground... constant power flashes... its going to **** and the power outeges were lines rubbing against each other next door to my house... just amazing.....

The GFS/RPM models are showing another one possibly next week...

Skilling on WGN was saying last night that another one but less worse will hit next week....

I have a sore throat and im stuck inside :(:'(

Have fun guys

Jeez there's a lot of snow out there. Now to go shovel it all up...

The snowplow got stuck and couldn't get to our street.

Do not rest cause we have got more on the way and it looks like mon-tue of next week we have another one...

Just found out that WE GOT ANOTHER SNOW DAY!!!!!!!!!

I just came in after five hours of shoveling. My car was parked in an overflow space because the plowing service doesn't clean your reserved space if your car is parked in it. That should be rather obvious, eh? Well, they didn't clean any spaces this time, just cleared a narrow path down the center. After I dug out my Bugati:o, I had to dig out my reserved space, which was armpit deep, 10 foot wide and 16 long.

I feel like I've just summit-ed Everest!
