Assets removed from game

I noticed that some scenery items were missing from one of my routes. I had a scene with deer and only the fawn showed on the route. Similarly with a rugby league field where the goal posts were gone. I checked installed items and they weren't there, so I had to download again. Now I'm starting to wonder if anything else has gone missing. Has anyone else had this problem?

Content shouldn't just disappear like that. Check for assets that are open for editing or faulty. Either of these situations will prevent assets from loading.

Also, have you disabled any assets lately?
If you have, they won't show in game.

Does the route show as missing assets in Content Manager or the route selection screen?

The most common cause of this issue (assets disappearing from a route) is confusion over what has been placed in the route and what has been placed in the session.

If an asset (e.g. goal posts) has been accidentally placed in a session and then the:-
  • route is saved but not the session, and later the route, with or without the session, is loaded
  • route and session are saved but later only the route is loaded
then the asset will have "gone walkabout".

In Surveyor 2.0 (Trainz Plus and TRS22PE) you can always have the Layers Palette displayed on the screen so that you know which layer is active and will receive any placed assets. I have developed the habit of locking the layers (route or session) that I am not editing.

These assets were on the route when I created it a few years ago in Trainz 12, so it's not a case of recent changes. Assets also missing are AJS Roundhouse parts. They were on the route and session when I took a screenshot a few days ago. It's not just a case of these assets not being on the route, they weren't on the data base.

These are the asset names, Rugby Posts, AJS Roundhouse, AJS Left Closer, AJS Right Closer, Animal Deer, Animal Deer 2, Church Anglican Princeton and KB_Dogbark. When I transferred the route to Trainz 21019 I downloaded these items. The only reason I can see why they may have gone is that they may have been assets on a DLC route I purchased and later uninstalled. As I was able download these again it's okay now. I'll check my other routes. Cheers.

I don't think the items were removed from your computer. I think the database just lost track of them. This can happen after installing an update or installing a lot of assets. Think of it like putting away the groceries in the kitchen. Sometimes you forget where you put the cookies and you can't find them until you search all the cabinets. If the database index gets messed up, it doesn't know what is installed and what isn't. Sometimes a DBR or EDBR will fix it or redownloading the items will add them to the index again.

Somewhere at the upper left tabs, there is a setting for "Show Missing Assets" Click on it and anything the route have that is faulty or missing, will show these orange squares. If they are there, CM should tell you what is wrong. If CM don't have these, it should say if they available to download or what fault prevent them to show. Case extreme, you'll have to reinstall. I encourage you to have a depository file somewhere with every single asset you have. (I do). Tap into it and problem solved. But is a pain in the butt...
