Assets Question

Excuse my ignorance but if I were to delete a route with assets that were exclusive to that route, would it also delete those assets, or would they remain? Thanks.

Justin

ShortFuse,

No !

Dependencies, (assets), are either built ins, or something you downloaded, they are stored in separate files .

The answers are correct but not complete.

If you delete a route you will also delete the session(s)/scenario('s) that are dependent of the route.

Other content will not be deleted.

Thanks guys I appreciate the replies. I realized I will lose the sessions. I just wanted to get rid of some of the routes I never, or will ever use. Doing a little early Spring cleaning.:mop:

Hi
If you are running 04 you can use TrainzObjects to hide the routes you dont use and they wont show up in the list in Surveyor or Driver.
then if you decide to use one you can unhide it.

And Trainz Objectz also has an option to list unused dependencies - very handy if you want to get rid of them too after you've deleted a bunch of layouts.

John

Sadly Trainz Objectz isn't compatible with TRS2006 or Trainz Classics. They use CMP and I don't know whether CMP has that facility.

John

You can individually check each item in CMP to see where it is used (list dependent assets). This option will be greyed if the item is not used in any route. As far as I know there isn't a way to list all unused assets in TRS06.

If you are trying to free up disk space, then sort the items by file size, and work through them that way - you'll soon have some space freed up.

Well then let me fire this ? off...
TS06...I just dowloaded alot of items today...mostly routes (Im still showing 70,000 items to be downloaded)
1) Do I really need all these items?

2) I now receive a stack dump error message on a few of the routes when trying to load them, which could be caused by the assets/dependancies not having a good url to download from.
If I delet the dependancies will that clear up or should I get rid of the routes that are missing the files.

Thanks

I would guess that all these items are required by the routes - but of course you might have added in some other items yourself.

Yep, the stack dump is probably caused by missing assets or assets with errors.
If I delete the dependancies will that clear up
Nope, that will probably make it worse.
or should I get rid of the routes that are missing the files.
If you can't resolve missing/defective assets, or replace them with available working equivalents, that's certainly worth considering deleting the relevant routes.

In TRS2004 missing and faulty dependencies only cause problems when the items that need them are actually used. I don't know if the same is true in TRS2006 and TC. I suspect CMP will throw a wobbly at the slightest excuse.

thanks John....almost makes me wanna reinstall and leave it simple...
Yes, resolving missing and broken assets is a pain.

However, there are some layouts on DLS which have all their required dependencies either as built-in items or available on DLS - there's a list here.

I tell ya what John...I deleted TS06 and did a fresh install...forget about downloading all the BS and getting errors..ill stick to the stock for now!

I even lost my layout...which is ok..but that's 18 hours i'll never get back...

If anyone could point me to the kuids...here's what Im looking for...
1) anything with Cotton Belt on it....locos prefered

2) Or anything Southern Pacific or Katy...would be a great help

I just also wanna say I have read a great deal from these forums and printed out 300 + pages on instructions...
Is there a prog that allows you to unpack a file...(in Silent Hunter 3 it was .dat files) then you could paint and repack em to have em in game...
I would like to know if I can unpack a file (in TS06) and repaint in PSP7 and repack and have that loco that I painted, for example, in the game...
I know some of you vets could help me out and any help would greatly be appreciated...
BTW if any of you play SH3 (Silent Hunter 3) I have a crap load of skins and mods for ya...
Thanks to you all...

In DLS, if you tick all the various Trainz versions and search for cotton belt or katy, a few locos and freight cars are listed. Some of them might need some fiddling with to make them work in TRS2006 though.

Try some searches in Google such as:
trainz cotton belt
trainz katy loco
You'll have to wade through plenty of irrelevant listings through.

Maybe someone else can point you directly to the rolling stock you want.

You can reskin (apply different textures to 3D objects) in TRS2006 but it works rather differently. Take a look at chapter 18 of the TRS2006 manual (PaintShed). It's also possible to reskin in a much more advanced manner with 3D modelling software but that is very complicated.

Keep posting if you need more help. Most people find Trainz overpowering at first.
